Type of diabetes
Type 2
My readings are very high in morning before meal 16.5 / 17.2.
I take metformin and gliclazide
Should i be concerned ?
Thank you

Those readings are too high to ignore. Check what they are 2 hours after typical meals to compare. May be your Gliclazide dose could be increased, so see the GP. What sort of BMI/Weight are you? If you are slim then being T1 becomes a possibility and there are two tests for that. Are you having a low-carb diet?

Are your readings only this high when you wake up and fasted? If so, then you might be seeing dawn phenomenon.

How long before bed do you eat (or drink) and what do you typically have for dinner? What are your post-meal glucose values normally? What dosage gliclazide are you currently on?

I'm type LADA/1 and was/am very overweight at diagnosis, so weight can be an indication, but it doesn't have to be. :) Plenty of T2 diabetics are skinny too.

These readings seem very high. If you are type 2, then drugs such as Metformin can help, but you need to help yourself by adopting a low carb diet. Many people on here used the LCHF (Low Carb High Fat) diet which is beneficial in reducing blood sugar and helping you to lose weight. You need some extra fat in your diet to compensate for the reduced carbs.

Just been to gp increase of metformin and gliclazide .
I need to loose some weight too
Thanks everyone

Hi @Taou1
Have you considered the Low Carb High(er) Fat way of eating? The idea of this way of eating is that you significantly reduce / or cut out carbs so don't eat bread, potatoes, rice, pasta nor anything with flour or grain, be very careful with fruit. Eat a good portion of meat with lots of veg (avoiding underground vegs as usually higher carb), cheese, cream instead of milk etc.

This way of eating will lower your glucose levels and stabilise them considerable so much better to manage. The added bonus will also be a considerable weight loss too :)

Maybe check out Diet Doctor
