High blood sugar levels 1 hour after breakfast

Hi there, its been 20 days since by DD of seven had been diagnosed with type 1. Although her levels all day are in normal range 70- 180, everyday an hour after breakfast her glucose level spikes to around 250! Our endo said its ok. But is it normal? Shes at home right now but when she goes to school will it interrupt with her being able to participate in gym class? I have thought about going no carb breakfast, as opposed to using more units as this will just lead to hypoglycemia at the 2 hour count. I have noticed that higher sugary breakfast peak the same as cooked breakfast s. The only clue i got is that after a few days of a cooked breakfast she had only once a smaller peak to 170. Of course i will talk this over with the doctor but i was just wondering what other parents do. Thank you!

You use the word "spike". Do you mean this as a rise then a fall to normal levels without additional insulin?
If so, you have the right amount of insulin but the peak of the insulin potency is later than the peak of the carb absorption.
Do you pre-bolus? You may need to give your insulin dose earlier for breakfast.
This is not unusual as we may be insulin resistant in the morning due to a liver dump of glucose.

Hi! Thank you for replying. Yes it spikes meaning at 40 minutes the arrow shows up and sometimes the libre can count and it say to count in ten minutes. When that happens its soaring to 250. Then it drops. At 1/15 it would drop to hypoglycemic levels at two hours, but at 1/18 is falls to 110 at three hours. In the graph you can see it as a spike. The insulin is given before. The endo said humalog starts working in five minutes but in the hospital we were told to wait about ten. And when levels are high even more, the endo didnt agree with that.... We'll try waiting a bit before eating only at breakfast as we were also given that advice in the hospital. As we are new to all this, the extra knowledge on how the liver contributes is very interesting. Thanks again

One question: the "glucose dumping" of the liver, does it lead to high or low count? At 8 which is before breakfast she is at 78- 95. Sometime libre shows a hypo but after checking rarely is true.

Unlike normal insulin injected insulin follows a fixed curve over five hours and does not match the food you are eating. Like your endo says, ignore the spikes.
I follow Dr Bernstein's diabetes solution and eat less than 30 grams of carbs a day take less insulin and I can still spike.

Wow! I see. I suppose things will change also when she gets back to school and out of the house. I can really see that with trial and error you find what best for you with type 1. Thanks for your help
