Do you eat rice, potatoes, pasta, bread and breakfast cereals?
Do you eat fruit?
Do you drink fruit juice or fruit smoothies?
An HbA1c of 8.9 is high. It means your average blood sugars are 11.6mmol/l which will not be doing your body any good at all. You need to get this down. You can use your meter to help you. Try this:
Test immediately before you eat
Test again 2 hours after your first bite
Look at the rise from before to after eating
It needs to be under 2mmol/l. Preferably a lot less.
If it isn't, there are too many carbs in that meal.
You could keep a proper food diary including portion sizes and record your levels alongside. This way you will see which foods are your danger foods, which you need to reduce, and which you need to eliminate.
