High Blood Sugars

Help - my Daughter has really high blood sugars and no matter what we do we can't seem to get them down. Aimee has type 1 and has been for over 7 years she's now 11. At first we thought that she wasn't doing some of her injections as she is pretty self sufficent but its starting to get her down now! we are up to 6 injections a day and its still high. Has anyone alse experienced this??
 
I would really get an appointment with your clinic asap.

I take it that your daughter raises her basal and boluses? And carb counts?

Is it anything to do with 'time of month?'

Have you tried a different batch number of insulins?
 
I'm in constant talks with the nurses, she doesn't carb count and doesn't have a pump so we have increased her insulin yet again, will see what happens, I'm lucky to work for a chief exec of a healthcare trust who specialises in diabetic care but she is also puzzled, I think each day with a diabetic child is different for everyone! X

Is there a reason for not carb counting.. I personally believe its the only way to manage diabetes..
 
We were but last time we went to clinic and she was so high they told us to stop, it worked at first but then it just seemed to go all over the place, I think they want her to go on a pump but she's not having it!?

Gosh, what levels are you actually getting for a 24 hr period?

Your hospital team would be a very rare example of wanting to put someone on a pump who isnt carb counting... Sorry, but carb counting is the minimum requirement to handle diabetes, then the ability to adjust insulin doses...

I would suggest that you note down all levels, doses and times for a minimum of 24hr and let the forum help you through with suggestions and dosages....

I've just been going through same situation with my daughter meg. She is 12 ( 13 Monday ) out of the blue her levels sorted themselves out . There was concerns that meg wasn't giving her lunch time insulin at school although she insisted otherwise. Her diabetic team decided to try her with a continuous testing sensor that she had put in Monday . Obviously pre teens hormones could be affecting levels . Meg is currently on 16 16 17 nova rapid then 33 levimer at night . She seems to be running more low lately so hopefully will be reducing insulin. We also kept a diet chart during her high periods . Hope your daughter gets things sorted i know what a stressful time it can be . Xx

If you were carb counting and her levels were fluctuating then that would suggest her ratios needed looking at, rather than she needed to stop carb counting I would have thought? Did you have different ratios during the day? You have to carb count with a pump so you won't get one until you are unfortunately :(
