After having my hba1c taken today I finally received my contour USB blood meter :):) along with the 10 test strips that came with it. I was disappointed with my first reading of 25.3 at lunch. I've just tested them now and they are slightly better with a reading of 16.8. Maybe they will be better tomorrow.

Are you testing before your meal and two hours after?
This is important in how to understand what ever you have eaten does to your blood glucose levels.

Not yet, I've only got 8 strips left for the weekend. For my lunch today I had a pot of meatballs with cheese and jalapeños from Subway for £1.39 and a fruit salad at my Nan's. Tonight I only ate 3 breaded chicken strips and emptied the rest of my plate in the bin as it was chips and homemade garlic pizza bread. I wanted to eat it every last bit of it. I've had to leave my house and go for a walk as I could not sit in the same room as my family when they were having apple pie and cream. Will this feeling ever go?

Yes it will
But be careful of the fruit and you need more strips otherwise how will you know?

I'm going crazy now, my blood sugar is 27.6 and I've just taken my medication and about to go bed. Will my insulin bring this down if I inject more as I've already injected 24 units of levemir and 18 units of novorapid. Don't believe how high I am, I only had 3 tiny potatoes with a minted lamb steak, peas, carrots gravy and 2 small Yorkshire puddings.

Champ - I know you're on insulin, but youre a young guy, and we've tried to advise you that what you're eating is obviously having a really detrimental effect on your blood sugars.
I think your medication needs to be looked at again, and you should be seeing a specialist. If you're not being given enough test strips, I'm sure you haven't been taught how to carb count!
Which country are you in? If you're in the UK it's a legal requirement (I believe) that your are given adequate test strips to test if you are driving, for example - perhaps someone can clarify?
But the problem honestly seems to be with your food, and the carb content. Potatoes, Yorkies, gravy and even the carrots, they are all dodgy when you are running high levels. Are you having snacks in between too?

Please try and make an effort to get this sorted, I'm sure you can get diet under control (without depriving yourself!) but it does take some effort to make changes. Sure you can do it:)

It did work, I woke up at 2am with my blood sugar level at 5.1 and I felt hungry and weak that I had to make myself some toast just to stop shaking.
Hello.. I'm only 28 and have had type 1 for 8 years.. you need to know how to carb count. I'm the same my sugars ran high for the 8 years. I am now controlling my sugars 100% I'm very strict on my carb counting... My best advice is get in touch with your doctors explain about your strips demand you need them issued on the day you phone up. Keep a eye on your sugar levels after two hours if you haven't had it long your body will need time to adjust to being given insulin. My body is the same but it's took me 8 years to control it.. my best advice is don't leave it long get it controlled from day one

Excellent advice. It's worrying that Champ is such a young type 2, and struggling like this - hope he heeds your words:)

I only started to control my own when I lost my big toe not all down to poor control the hospital doctor stated it wasn't infected but when smelly pus was seeping out more knew there was a problem. Everyone takes time to accept but my only advice to any diabectic do not leave it too long to accept it cause longer you leave it that's when your body takes longer to heal problems

I'm getting 50 test strips tomorrow and I do live in the UK, but I don't drive. I have been told about carb counting, but I've found it confusing. I am also snacking in between with 4 or 5 biscuits or enjoying my mum's baking.

You need to watch the snacking. Four or five biscuits is going to have more carbs than a meal and a lot of sugar - a plain digestive biscuit is about ten carbs. Try a day without snacking and see what your blood sugars are like. Not easy, I know, but you're just going to keep your levels high otherwise. Best of luck.

If you must snack and if your mum's a keen cook, get her to have a search around the low carb recipes in the forum and on the web for low carb alternative baked goods, e.g. our own Ewelina's http://www.diabeticgoodbaking.com/. Fewer carbs should both help with your glucose levels, and help reduce your hunger.

I've felt like utter **** today, woke up with a blood sugar of 12.4 had breakfast at 7am which was a poached egg and a milky coffee. At 10:30am my blood sugar went down to 10.1. At midday it crept up to 12.9. All I had was 3 cups of tea with full fat milk. Lunch was a subway Italian BMT salad with cheese and mayo along with a side of meatballs, cheese and jalapeños. By 2pm my blood sugars were still in the teens at 11.6. Had a handful of mixed nuts and seeds that made me throw up and ditch the bag. Blood sugars then dropped dramatically to 5.4 this evening and I felt like I was going to pass out. For my tea I had 4 crackers with salmon and dill Philadelphia spread as I looked at everything in the kitchen and it was just screaming carbs, carbs, carbs. My blood sugars are 7.9 and I'm now sitting down watching the hunger games with a bag of peanuts by my side.

Why don't you make your own meals? I'm not being mean, but sounds like Sub aren't doing you any favours - neither are the crackers really. You could have eggs and bacon for breakfast, try putting that Philly in slices of cold meat instead of crackers, get some cheese in there, chicken thighs or legs with the skin on, there are loads of ideas on the low carb forum. Have you had a look yet? You need to be eating enough to ward off hunger and it seems like your eating is pretty erratic.
If your family kitchen is full of carbs, then you have to get the stuff that isn't - and it needn't cost much money. Again, there is a post in the low carb forum about eating on a budget. Taking on responsibility for your meals, cooking for yourself would be a good start to gaining control - and you can do it, but it has to be your choice. It's your life, your health and your responsibility.

There are plenty of young people who control their diabetes with diet as well as insulin here, I'm sure even though you are type 2, they can advise you too.

Are you correcting for the highs?

If you have a quick look through Champs previous posts, there seems to be no info whatsoever coming from the doctor, not even enough test strips. He is type 2, so maybe they don't think he needs to be taught to carb count - all seems very odd to me.

I can't do it, I can't cut all carbs out. I can cut out all the sugary carb foods right now! But I cannot give up the starchy carbs. I am now in hospital being told to eat carbs to maintain my blood sugars as I was unconscious this morning and got told my blood sugar was 1.5 after waking up in the afternoon. The doctors at the hospital have referred me to see a diabetes specialist, dietitian, haematologist, endocrinologist and a opthalmologist as I've heard that they are testing me for rabson mendenhall syndrome and cushing's. This has seriously messed up my life. I don't know how I'm going to cope or gain control of this disease, it's just too frustrating:mad::mad::mad::mad::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
