Hello and welcome,

Please can you tell me what BHF is?

What medication are you on, and which type of diabetes have you?

If the BHF is the British Heart Foundation diet, then I think that the 5 a day advice is for a minimum of 5 a day, not a max.

So you can have as much veg as you like (not including the starchy veg like potatoes), just don't have LESS than 5.

National guidelines vary a lot. In Japan, they recommend 17 portions of veg I believe. So there really is no upper limit.

Personally, I find keeping my fruit portions down to no more than one portion of berries a day (which are low in sugar) helps my blood glucose stay under control.

Hi. You need to cut down all carbs and not just sugar; sugar is just another carb. I would advise you to be guarded about the diet info on the BHF website. When I looked recently it was promoting the new 'Eat Well Guide' which many of us would disagree with and it was largely promoted by the food industry; great. Also be aware that the 5-a-day was promoted by the Californian fruit and veg growers association. At least they are promoting good food and yes it was a minimum; just avoid tropical fruits which are high in sugar/fructose.
