Type 2 diabetic, my fasting blood sugar this morning was 17.3. I'm taking 1mg Metforming, slow release. How do I get my sugar down?

In the short term, drink masses of water, avoid any fruit juice, tea or coffee with sugar, and squashes with any sugar.
- and avoid eating anything with carbs in.
In the longer term, maybe have a good long look at what you have been eating and trim back the carbs.
Is your blood glucose generally high? Or is this a sudden development?
Type 2s can eat normally and rely on drugs, or eat low carb and avoid a lot (or all) of the drugs, or go anywhere on the spectrum in between.
Maybe have a chat with your doc, and discuss increased medication.
Have you seen the low carb programme on the main website? It is very informative, and give a 10 week structured course in getting blood glucose down by diet and lifestyle.

hi there,
mine were about 14-15 when i was 1st diagnosed in Jan of this year, with a strict low carb diet & intense exercise of running 40km weekly, i have brought it down to 7-8 on most mornngs.
I still miss my target of 5-6 FASTING levels & still working hard to achieve that.
Any suggestion from this forum?
