Hi, I'm a newbie, I was diagnosed a week ago today, at the moment my reading seems highest in the morning, my fasting level doesn't seem any different from my evening level, is this normal?

Hi @MezBrown and welcome to the forum. Many people have higher fasting bs levels in the morning. It is often due to 'Dawn Phenomenon' where your liver dumps stored glucose into your blood stream as you wake to get you going. Non-diabetics can get it too.
Fbgs aren't the best way to assess your progress as they are often the last bs figures to fall. What are your figures like during the day?

As I've only just started I haven't done any lunch time ones yet but it is about 8.4 before eating in the evening. That is my lowest reading so far.

Hi and welcome,

I agree with @Prem51 Too much emphasis is put on fasting BG. What is happening before and after meals is far more important. There are too many factors involved in the fasting readings, most of which are outside our control.

Can you tell us what your diagnosis tests were and the levels? Also which diabetes medication you are on?

If you stick to eating low carb foods and try to keep the increase after meals to two whole numbers then you should hope to see all the numbers drifting downwards, but the fasting readings seem to be slowest to react. Despite everything being listed as good, normal, even ideal, my fasting blood sugar has gone down 0.2 in 3 months and it is still out of range - but I do hope to see it getting better as time goes on.
