High in morning

Can I just ask ,most night 7.30 ish just before bed Chloe had 1egg one bacon no carbs as she's always starving and its her new fave supper!could this be rising her bloods even though no carbs? She used to have cereal or toast as supper and inject but we soon realised was a big no-no .

Protein when eaten needs the body to break it down for digestion by producing glycogen which, raises sugar levels. Not worth insulating for what your daughters having for her new supper as prob would cause hypo.

Sugar free jelly may need to come back on the menu then. Didn't no that about protein,I only calculate carbs . Sometimes she even has eggs ham snd cheese in the day if she's hungry as I though she didn't need to inject for these things.no wonder her blood rises and I'm always clueless to why!
Thanks brett

No dont advise injecting for these protein foods... ... I give myself a minisule amount of insulin if I have eggs n bacon.. About 0.2 of a unit for 2 eggs n 3 rashers fried.... You cannot do that with an injection.

Do not inject for cheese or ham....

No, don't start injecting for protein. the rise caused by eating protein is minimal when consumed with carbs, a little more noticeable if eaten alone, but not enough to inject for.

Products with high fats in ......like cheese on pizza for example or caiflower cheese or macaroni cheese can be difficult to balance.

On a pump it is so much easier as we can lengthen the time the bolus takes to get in to us, to counteract the protein from things like, fried eggs, cheese etc...

People on injections may find raised bgs after eating these sorts of products, but besides doing a correction if it happens and checking and remembering (and especially with an active child... ) I would not advise any extra injecting for protein foods....

Another thing with the pump Shell is depending on which one you get (you might have a different criteria to me) you might be able to get a CGM. Personally if I was waking in the 8/9s I would be really happy.

Downside to CGM very expensive (not NHS funded) and it is invasive (small patch with very thin needle inserted) although actually might reduce the number of BG tests you need to do...

Some nhs places do fund cgms my hospital (cant say which one-as everybody will go there-lol!) does have funded cgm's.

But they are only a week arent they? Last I checked only 20ish CGMs were funded for full time use by the NHS?

We're on the list to try a CGM but the list long and there is only one for the hospital .not sure Chloe would even put it in if we do get offered it and yes we can borrow for a week x

No I was given a cgm fully funded for as long as I wanted.. Trouble is I changed pct, but stayed with hospital when I moved. This pct doesnt fund... But the last one, I could have had it funded forever.. As it was the cgm was ****... (Abbott navigator), and it went back two weeks ago after a load of problems with it...
