High metabolism and diabetic

Hi I was diagnosed 3 month's ago with type 1 and I have a high metabolism which is a problem with my sugars does anyone else have high metabolism and how do u control your diabetes please.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by high metabolism? Best to check we're talking about the same thing first, so can you give a little more detail?

I find housework quite strenuous too, so sometimes have a small snack to boost my blood sugar.

For me, the key to controlling Type 1 is to count carbs so you know how much insulin to inject for particular meals. It's also important to test lots, including after meals so you can see what's going on and identify any problem areas like certain times of the day that your blood sugar goes low or high, etc

I have a fast metabolism in that I can eat quite a lot but remain slim. Diabetes hasn't changed that really. I try to eat similar amounts of calories each day so that my weight stays stable, and I make sure my blood sugar stays in range as much as possible.

I work in a Pre school yesterday my sugars were 19 and then drop down to 5 in just over an hour and that is eating aswell

If you find you're going low on the school run, try having some glucose tablets before you leave, or having some on the walk if you feel low. Whatever works best for you.

If you're going low a lot, you should speak to your Diabetes Specialist Nurse as it may be that your insulin needs adjusting. Although we all have low sugars sometimes, they shouldn't be so frequent that they interfere with your life or make you feel bad.

I have she drop inselin to 2 3 3 4 all I do is eat I have lots of carbs but nothing hold thank u for your help though

Talk to your diabetes team and let them know that you're battling lows. They may drop your insulin again.

If you're using an insulin pen, you could see if you could have a pen that does half units so you can adjust your insulin by half units not whole units.

If you're not already carb counting, then ask about that too. If you can match your insulin to the amount of carbs you're eating at each meal that makes it easier.

Bear in mind that if you're newly diagnosed, your body may still be making some of its own insulin too, and that could cause lows sometimes.

Hope you get it sorted :)

The fact that you're using words like "lots" tells me you have no idea EXACTLY how many calories, carbs, protein, and fat you're eating a day. That's the first thing I'd assess and 99.9% of the time that fixes the problem.

Basically eat 5000 calories a day for the next 6 months and I all but guarantee you'll gain weight.

It sounds like you are in your honeymoon period. You are still producing some insulin and you are still very insulin sensitive.
