I find housework quite strenuous too, so sometimes have a small snack to boost my blood sugar.
For me, the key to controlling Type 1 is to count carbs so you know how much insulin to inject for particular meals. It's also important to test lots, including after meals so you can see what's going on and identify any problem areas like certain times of the day that your blood sugar goes low or high, etc
I have a fast metabolism in that I can eat quite a lot but remain slim. Diabetes hasn't changed that really. I try to eat similar amounts of calories each day so that my weight stays stable, and I make sure my blood sugar stays in range as much as possible.
