Blood sugars have been between 4.1 & 7.3 for past few days, last night it hit 18.6, today has been around 14 all day.

Have had no hypos or done anything differently to affect levels, eaten same things as usual and not unwell or anything.

Even with a couple of correction doses of Novorapid through the day, I am still reading far too high.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Spoke to clinic on phone today and they didnt seem too interested but it is really bothering me as the best they said was to reduce my Lantus from 28 to 26 units.

Odd that they've suggested you reduce your lantus insulin despite you having high bg levels, it might just be your coming down with a bug/cold or something else and the symptoms have yet to show themselves, as your on a basal/bolus insulin regime just follow the Sick Day Rules to bring your levels down, there's an explanation about them in the following:

Thank you, was just away to look up the sick day rules.

Hey if your still running high tomorrow and your sure it's not a bug try changing your insulin cartridge, might have gone off. Reducing your background is poor advice you should only do this if your going low, hope it improves tomorrow ;)

Been on that merry go round. Knock bgls down with boluses for a day, decide something else is happening and up your basal. Get it under vague control in a couple of days then everything goes back to normal and you're left with hypos for 24 hours till you get your basal back down. Just follow the bgls, they are our master, we are their slaves.

Thanks guys. At 4.6 this morning so hopefully whatever it was has passed.

Off to clinic at 9.30 so will see what they think.

I have a similar thing today...can't figure it out.

BG absolutely spot on all day yesterday...between 4-6...was feeling quite smug until I got home from work and BG was at 3.2 so had a jelly baby and a cracker and actually not feeling too great went and had a bit of a lie down. When I woke up an hour later it was 7.9...just before dinner it was 11.7...had a couple of correction doses after each high reading and injected for dinner and was actually a little worried about going hypo in the night...then I woke up on 14.9...Ugh?? This is the highest reading I've had in months and months.

I have a hospital appointment this morning so I do wonder if it could actually be partially caused by nerves...but still high..don't like:(

sometimes these things just happen for no apparent reason -- have had it myself a few times -- is so annoying when it does though

Hiya Natalie,

Mine is now at around 9/10 but I am just leaving it to do whatever it likes today, got clinic at 9.30 then dr at 3pm so if they cant help, I will just let it stay high, end up in hosp then blame them lol.

Nothing more annoying. Got some weird spots/lumpy bits on my arm so wondering if that might have something to do with it??

Good luck at hospital !! X

that made me laugh -- just let it stay high and end up in hospital
keep the headphones on too -- listening to Deftones or Death By Stereo -- going La La La La La the whole while :D
like your style

Need to get it higher then than just 9/10 on the meter, otherwise they will not take you serious when arriving at the hospital.
(do they ever anyway?)

Punky diabetics going hypo do though tend to be more creative and wild than the hyper ones. :)
Just my two cents...

How did you get on at the clinic? Did they have any idea's what may be causing it?

I'm high again today...14.9 AGAIN :(...just don't get it...went to bed on 7.2 :banghead:

I'm not feeling too great...a bit of a cold so wonder if that's causing it :(

Hi Natalie - i've had a few of these in the last week, think it's bugs flying round, although yesterday I didn't take enough QA and went from 6.4 to 15.9 in 3 hours, faster than a racing car lol !!!

As long as they come down again that's all that matters ;)

Good to know I'm not alone...must be the weather or something lol

It's so frustrating though...I've had such good control over the last couple of months and there just doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to it...Grrr! :banghead:

On the plus side...I'm now back down to a very happy 6.1 :)

I am back down to 'normal' today. They didnt have much of a clue, 'just one of those things'.

Reduced my Lantus level again which I thought was a bit strange but hey, they know best. HAHAHAHAHA!!

Glad to see yours is better today as well Natalie. X

I'm on the very same rollacoaster. High Monday and Tuesday so pump increased to 5% and 10% later on in the day. High again today so switched to a new profile where basal rate is +5% throughout and what do you know, now at 3.4. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!! Has a few sniffles at the weekend so could be an underlying bug I guess. God only knows really.
