High sugar levels AGAIN feeling upset :(

Levels one hour after pre tea check: 14.8

At what level was your blood sugar when you ate? Recommendation is not to eat until below 8 also how long are you waiting after injecting before you eat?

Im lowering carbs. I needes to eat ove not ate much at all. Can't get near 8. Been in the 20s for a while now so im happy with my current levels. Think I posted my pre meal reading if not it was 13.2. Thanks.

If you are consuming a lot of fat with your lc diet then, I would suspect that could be the problem. Many but not all type 1's find they need almost double basal if having a high fat meal, so worth looking at that side of things as well.

I am only trying lower carbs today as some on here have suggested wise to avoid spikes. But if I consider a lchf diet I will bear that in mind thankyou.

Levels pre tea were 13.2.

Tea was pork steaks, chorizo, bacon, garlic, onions, salad, potato salad and coleslaw. Carbs in this was 20g. Then I had fat free yoghurt and 60g weight of raspberries for pudding roughly 6g of carbs. So 2:10g ratio means 5.2 units rounded up to 5.5. Corrected at ratio 1:1 aiming for 10 again took 3 units. Will retest in an hour :)

ok looking good for the evening keep us updated please as evening progresses:)

Pleased your numbers are coming down a bit more now.

Me too. Bloody diabetes!!!
it's an eff*ng headache but better than not being here at all
with you young lady !!!!!!!!!!!!

a reminder for you in case you see single figures soon -- beware false hypo's -- you have been so high for so long your body might think you are going hypo at between 6-9 so keep testing.

Glad you actually spoke to a professional :)
Better to be safe than sorry - as we keep saying

How are you feeling now - with your lower BG levels ?

Better. Less tired. :D

Levels are still 12.2 an hour later..

When I first stsrted using MDI, insulin to carb ratios were never discussed but consultant who started me off with Lantus and Humalog just told me to test bg levels every 2-3hrs and adjust the bolus with the carb. Through bg testing and adjusting the bolus, I realised that the Lantus seemed to lose some of its effect early evening (I injected it before going to bed) and that I needed to use 12u of Humalog to eat 35g carb for evening meal at 6.30pm whereas for other meals, I only needed 5u at breakfast and 7u at lunch. So you see, the amounts of bolus you use does need to vsry according the bg levels you try to aim for. Human body only recognises insulin, it doesnt know the difference between bolus and basal. Dont be afraid of insulin......as long as you can test bg frequently, you will find your way and adjust the bolus.

Off to bed soon. Will take my final reading soon..do I need to snack before bed? (Hope so I am hungry but nothing low carb im the house to snack on other than salad. :( )

Do I need to check again through the night?

Ooh it feels better having levels of 12 than this time last night 20!!!

Thank you ALL.

If yr bg is above 8mmol, then no, dont snack. Try to have a coffee with a glug of cream in it as that should curb the hunger.
At the moment, you are treading the bosrds with insulin and adjusting it . Get up every 3hrs tonight and test bg to see how bg levels go and only deliver a correction if very high and then only do that about 3hrs before getting up for breakfast. Try eating lowish carb food until you are able to work out your own ratio.

****. Have ran out of cream too. Only have whipped cream and an options hot chocolate which has 5.8g. I will probably go to bed without a snack and check levels in 3 hours. Thanks.
