Husband recently went back to low carb after slipping a bit the last few months. Now his morning BG is in the 9s - unheard of! Any idea what might cause this?

Was this reading from a meter or CGM ?
If meter, possibility of some substance on finger, skewing the reading, so wash hands, and repeat . If a CGM then there will be info of BG readings throughout the night.

The “slipping a bit the last few months”, has there been a recurrence?
Could there be a possibility of a cold, recent vaccination, illness or infection?
If I had a higher than usual reading, I would monitor a bit more closely, both BG levels, what I was eating, and how I was feeling generally. Wouldn’t be too concerned if it was a one off, but if continuing for a few days would either look at what changes I needed to make, or consider seeking advice from GP on medication. Is your husband on medication, @fumanchu ? It is difficult to advise without full knowledge of circumstances.

Thanks for fast reply xx - No meds, diet only. On his meter, He washed hands etc and redid it and it was 9.5. Usually high 7s in the mornings. He's cracking up here :( He is very tired just now but he's 79. On other meds but nothing new. Might be a cold or bug cooking.

Our bodies are funny things, If he’s been running higher numbers for a while and he’s just recently dropped his carbs again it could be his liver dumping glucose to get him BG back to what his bodies been used to. Fasting BG is the last one to go down and it’s one we can do least about. Hopefully it will settle back down

It took my FBG about 3 months to settle at the beginning of the year when I was on the BRAT diet for another condition & was having to eat my carbs for a little while

Hi is this 9mmol/l as in glucose meter ?
fasting readings for me are higher burt there is a reason due to liver releasing glucose to kick start your body, some of mine can be in 7's then level out later in day. If that concerned ask Dr or D nurse and yes colds etc can also cause this so can getting too stressed over it, even weather can cause changes
good luck

He's always had this high reading in the morning but never this high Mark. We've had some stress lately over a son and that might not be helping. TY!

Stress does it for me, so much so I refused to know what my hba1c was as I knew the past 6 months had been hell resulting in my terrible readings. On track now but stress does not help xx

I think this is probly right, Adult son been giving us a lot of worry, but last night we spoke and hopefully that's sorted (for now anyway). So let's see how his numbers do now! Such a complicated and worrying diesease, isn't it Lainie :(
