It seems the medical profession managed the condition better in the 1920's.

I do family history, so imagine my surprise when I obtained the death certificate of my great, great grandfather. He died in hospital in 1897, aged 71. Cause of death "diabetes".

That's a fine age to reach in the 1890's.
In contrast sugar is ubiquitous now.

Reading about riding horseback and overfeeding and starvation back in those days, makes me realise how dam lucky we actually are.

Also, I did wonder what would happen about tasting of the 'sweet urine' if Aids or HIV was about then, but undiscovered or not seen as a potential lethal disease ( or something similar regarding the bodily fluids)
I have found the history side of diabetes fascinating.
