Has anyone else hit a wall regarding food? I know there's loads of recipes and combinations of low carb high fat foods but I have become bored of food after only 4 weeks and I just eat (the right foods) to survive. I feel queasy after a few mouthfuls but finish the meal. Nothing really excites me except my homemade soup I suppose a nice pudding would be nice

I think many people feel the same as you. Just carry on with the soup at least, and look on the forum recipes for a low fat pud. How about sugar free jelly and some berries or even cream?

I get that way myself, but I experiment with new ideas and products. It's not a case of starving yourself, or being very regimented with the diet. When I am very stable, I allow myself treats. I have my 'junk' days, but I increase insulin dosage according to what I am having. It does not always turn out for the best....but it is worth a try.

Sometimes it is the amount you eat as well!
We can survive on little bites of food instead of quantity.
Quality is more important. How nutritious those few bites are rather than how much.
If you can fast, then find out how food doesn't have to be a chore every three to four hours a day!
I have found that intermittent fasting and having small meals when I want much better than filling my face all day long.
It can become a bit of an obsession to continually think about food!

I do really miss fruit so I must try this xx

@Rosiegough_ have a look at the diabeticgoodbaking.com website. They were developed by ewelina who is a member of the forum. I can definetly recommend the ricotta cake and the blueberry muffins but there are lots of great recipes.

Have small pieces or segments through the day!
Don't forget, if you have a small piece your blood glucose levels won't rise as much as a bigger piece.
You just have to test and find out!

I used to feel like that at the beginning. I think that after a while - a few months - it becomes normal to eat foods from the okay list and just the thought of how I felt when I started low carbing (healthwise) is enough to stop me from eating something I shouldn't.

I do have days when I've had enough of whatever way of eating I'm using at that moment (I'm forever experimenting with different low carb approaches) and when I get an 'I'm BORED' day I'll pick things to eat that are low carb but aren't necessarily as healthy for me as they could be.... low carb cakes, fat head pizza, minute mug cakes, cream cheese pancakes with carb free syrup - and pick at nuts, cold roast chicken, cold sausages, prawns, 75%+ chocolate - anything really. It helps that there isn't anything in this house which isn't suitable for me now. If I'm being REALLY naughty I'll have 50g of frozen raspberries with a little splenda and double cream (sort of a lush raspberry ripple icecream) as recommended by @bulkbiker :)

It really helps to sit down and make a list of all the foods you CAN eat rather than focusing on the foods you can't.

It may well be a sign that you are becoming fat adapted and simply don't feel the need to eat so much?
I found that LCHF has helped me control my food addiction, not completely but I binge a lot less than I used to.
Have you tried a bit of fasting .. might help depending on how much you are eating.

Yes, I have been through a few cycles of this.

Each time I have wobbled a bit in my resolve, then found a new way to make meals interesting. Usually I have fallen into a rut, eating the same selection of foods a little too often, and boredom has crept in. I don't do well with boredom!

I find herbs, spices, different world cuisines, and recipes in books and the internet help tremendously.

Also, resisting any hint that this is a way of eating that involves deprivation. It really REALLY isn't. :D I think once we get our heads around the whole thing, we switch our brains from focusing on what we can't eat, to what we can.

It was kind of a light bulb moment for me when I twigged that I could eat so much, so deliciously, every day.

I mean, what do you like? Really like? Something you have probably been avoiding for years, because you thought it was bad?
Because there will be a way of doing it LC, that is frankly delicious... you just have to find the recipe for whatever it is.

I know you're missing puddings, @Rosiegough_ but I can also recommend the Cheesy biscuits recipe on @ewelina 's site. They are very cake like and hit the spot for me. I missed cake more than puddings so when I last had a dark spell of "Sod it all, I'm going to eat what I want and not care about the consequences...." I had cake. Twice. It took weeks to get my blood sugars back on track so finding easy recipes which satisfied that urge for cake without the sugar helped a lot. There's also a lovely coffee and walnut one which I tried for the first time this week, and about to make again, but I'd need to hunt a link down for that.

Sugar free jelly is a mass of chemicals from ICI.

Not necessarily:

(honey can be replaced by stevia or other non-synthetic sweetener)

(and I want to thank everyone for mentioning sugar free jelly again - I have just placed an order for some of the jelly crystals in the third link - can't wait for Mr B to try them - he low carbs, but not as low as me, so the small amount of cane sugar in the pack will give an acceptably low carb content for him, provided he eats reasonable portion sizes! :D)

Yes, I entirely agree, never buy the supermarket rubbish, it's complete junk.
As @Brunneria says, make your own.
Thanks for the links.
(personally, I use Ball, No sugar Pectin)

The mini vat of premixed chemicals from Hartleys should be avoided at all costs -
Water, Gelling Agents: Locust Bean Gum; Xanthan Gum; Gellan Gum, Acid: Citric Acid, Colours: Carmine; Anthocyanins, Acidity Regulator: Potassium Citrate, Flavourings, Sweeteners: Aspartame; Acesulphame K

Strawberry flavour, it's never been near a strawberry!

That's a failed science experiment that wouldn't scrape down the drain properly, so they had to find another way to dispose of it!

What I don't understand is why eat strawberry jelly, low carb or not, when you can eat a strawberry with full fat yoghurt?

cos... cos... its jelly!

Didn't you ever have jelly as a child? At parties? With icecream?
Fruit is nice. Strawberries are lovely.

But they ain't jelly!!!
