Type 2 Holding Food in system

Hi. I don't know whether this is the correct forum for my enquiry. Perhaps it could be forwarded to the correct one if necessary.
I've been T2 diabetic for 24 years, initially on metformin then on no medication as I controlled it through diet and exercise. Five years ago when in hospital for something else for 3 months I was put on insulin injections.
Now, I take Rybelus in the morning and have reduced my long lasting injection to 60 units and the fast acting to 8 at meal times.
I average 100 carbs, 1100 calories a day and have lost 14 kg in 3 months. But, a recent scan showed I was holding food in my system for far too long as food was found there despite a 16 hour fast.
I've to undergo an emptying study to ascertain what's happening. My liver consultant has indicated that holding food in the system is a consequence of being diabetic. My own informal research has not suggested that holding food in the digestive system is caused by diabetes.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dr Clive Wheeler

Hi @Dr Clive , I’m also on Rybelsus, which as I understand it slows the transit of food through the system which makes you feel fuller for longer. Has no one suggested that it might be the Rybelsus that’s causing your problem? Of course there maybe something else going on but this was my initial thought.

When I was in hospital for something else 3 years ago, I was put on several meds that cause gastric bleeding. Thanks to my GP I was taken off all but one of them as soon as I came out, (I am now off the last culprit) but damage had already been done, and it has taken a long time for my gut to heal. From time to time I still need to give it some extra help, which I do by adding more butter and olive oil to whatever I am eating. I already eat lots of green leafy veg. so it isn't roughage that I need. It might be the same for you.
