Holiday loan pump - Medtronic?

Hi
I've been badgered into holidaying abroad against my better judgement, by my husband.
I rarely ever go abroad, it stresses me out through security, my blood sugars are erratic, basically I just go and hope I don't die and wait to come home.

Anyway last time I went to Spain I had a loan pump but that was several years ago. It seems they might have stopped offering this service now? I should have checked before booking as I definitely wouldn't have booked this if I'd known. In fact I'm tempted not to go but it's cost us £5k... if my pump failed I would not cope. I've been on a pump for 10 years and my sugars are very brittle. I only manage them with a pump as I take such tiny amounts of insulin - 0.2u covers me 10g of carbs. Total dose per day is 16u. 0.5u can drop me 10mmol. This is why I can't risk having to go back to mdi for ten nights whilst abroad.

Is it true Medtronic don't loan anymore? I will phone them tomorrow but this has kick started my anxiety over going abroad again.

Thanks.

I reversed my Type 2
Treatment type
Diet only
As I'm neither T1 nor insulin dependent, I have no idea, but my response will boost your thread into direct view again.

I would double check with both your Dsn and Medtronic - I can’t see why they would stop loaning pumps out for holidays as you need back up, but to also take pens too for basal/bolus also.

As far as I know, Medtronic still do lend holiday spare pumps. Why not give them a call and ask?

If you speak to someone who says they don't lend out spare pumps for going on holiday, check by asking when/why they stopped doing so - it could be someone who hasn't had proper training.

I'm sure I read quite recently that they do still lend spare pumps.
Get on that phone and order your spare pump then relax.
