Home Glucose tolerance test

Hi Stoomc

Your numbers look perfectly reasonable. I understand your concern but when you have all clear from the doc then why would you worry, moreover your own ogtt test looks good as well, the figures 2 hours after are completely normal for a non diabetic.
If i was you I would just enjoy the life, rather than keep thinking about it to be honest. What would interest me though is what you were at 1 hour.
Thanks for your reply brettsza. I'm just no 100% if my bloods were screened for diabetes as well.

Funny you should say that, I'm in the process of doing another ogtt just now so I can take my reading at 1 hour. Nervous again, lol.
I had a litre bottle of Lucozade to use up.

Thanks again.

OK, I'm beginning to panic a bit more again. My 1 hour reading (I took 3) has just came out at 8, 7.6 and 7.9.
Should I be worried?

They are fine now if youhafhreen spots on your tongue and hear voices in your head then go to the doctors if get on with your life

Thanks Jason, nothing life a bit of humour to bring a freak down to level, lol! :)

Do you not think they're high? i was led to believe they were. I didn't think non diabetics should be hitting 8 mmol?

Those are not high. They are normal.
Thank NoCrbs. Some strange things are going on with this meter. I took a reading at 1 hour 15 mins and it went up to 8.4! Surely thats too high.

My 2 hour reading was 7.7... high again :(
Then a reading 10 mins later and it was 6.1.
What is going on. Talk about a rollercoaster.

Hi Stoomc
Sorry for the late reply, your numbers are still ok. They are all in non diabetic range.

For peace of mind call the doctor and ask if hba1c was part of the test, they normally do this as a routine test.

That 8.4 reading would be pre diabetes though, wouldn't it? :(

Just a general question, do people with IGT/ pre diabetes also have to get extra eye screening etc. or is that only type 1 and 2?

Being non diabetic you would often go a lot lower than we diabetics hence your a1c is lot lower thatn us. Google doctor is not the best thing to look at. I feel I have all the diseases and conditions in the world that exists :) so not much help but usefull at times. To put your mind at rest speak to the doc and if at all he's not done the test you could ask him to do it. Also the fingerprick method is not the most accurate way of getting to know the true readings. Most of the metres have a variation of upto 10 percent ( or was is 20) from the actual reading.

You say you are not diabetic, just worried you could be, you haven't had the test or been diagnosed but you worry you have it. You worry you will go blind if you are diagnosed, worry you will get ALL the things that can be caused by diabetese.
I lost my sight well before I was diagnosed.....not diabetese related
I have problems with my feet.....not diabetese related
I am diabetic and get told off by my DN for testing
You are none diabetic but worrying yourself sick by testing
Put the meter away until you actually get symptoms....if you ever do
Seriously, you should be enjoying your life not worrying about something that will probably never happen

Hi @stoomc ,

I'm not diabetic and your blood glucose levels are better than mine.

You have no need to worry!

You're entirely correct. I know how I'm coming across.
Drs appointment tomorrow at 10:20. Have been coming off of Citalopram for the past few weeks (for anxiety, lol!) and it's definitely not my time. I'm up to high do with absolutely everything minor.
Been on Citalopram for 3 years and just been normal... going to get straight back to it!

Thanks for the kick up the ****, I know I'm being silly :)

It wasn't meant as a kick up the .... but I did sense your anxiety. I have been there myself when I lost a very close cousin at a young age and I convinced myself I had the same illness. That happened fifty years ago and if I hadn't done something then, I would still be worrying about getting that illness, it could have spoilt my life and although I got diabetese I never did get that illness. Citalopram is a good med and if it keeps you well then why not continue taking it

Yeah, it's been great for me for 3 years, I thought I would be fine, but I guess I just have to suck it up that I have anxiety engrained into me and I may never get off my medication.

So what if you have to take tablets forever, isn't it worth it to have a better quality of life and not be screwed up all the time. People take a lot more than one type of tablet every day for much more serious reasons. It's not as if they are doing harm THEY ARE DOING GOOD! A few years ago I had a breakdown and to prevent it happening again I take a mintenance dose of a tablet a day, it works and my life is good. I have been through a few traumas recently including the death of my husband and I survived (well reasonably) why would I stop taking my tablet.

Stoomc I think maybe you are worrying far too much. I hope seeing the doctor will put your mind at ease and convince you that you don't have diabetes. Please try not to stress about it. All the self testing is only making you more anxious and it probably isn't necessary. I understand your fears but all this worrying and self testing isn't helping at all. Good luck with the doctors appointment....I hope he puts your mind at ease

I'm feeling a bit better than I was before.
I think seeing the 8.4 after the hour just gave me a big shock.
To be honest, I think it wasn't helped by not being sure what I should be seeing at 1 hour, I could really only see info regarding what it should be at 2 hours.

Thanks for all the replies I do really appreciate it. :)
