Normally after two failed appointments mine will "knock you off their list".

You may find that you can get appropriate care from your local GP.. Not everybody for type 1 or thpe 2 goes under hospital care. I'm type 1 and for a decade at least was under gp care only.

Hi. Your GP has a duty of care for you and if, as you said, depression was part of the cause then he is duty bound to provide or arrange the care you need both for diabetes and whatever

Hi

I would suggest that you write to the Consultant explaining what has happened and ask for another appointment. I had problems a couple of years ago when I actually cancelled my appointment they wrote and told me that I would not receive another appointment. I also had problems with the hospital continually cancelling and re-booking my appointment and I wrote to the Consultant then and I had an immediate response from his secretary.

Regarding how you are feeling at the moment I would suggest you go and see your GP to dicuss those feelings and I would also explore the possibility of you qualifying for some benefits - you may be entitled to getting your fares paid for attending the hospital.

Another option could be to ask your GP to refer you to a Diabetes Specialist Nurse - I have a very good one who is always available at the end of a phone and she has visited me at home several times. I landed up seeing a Consultant because I was on insulin and byetta at one stage and this had to be supported by a Consultant as insulin with byetta was not officially licensed! Am off to see him today and am going to ask him to discharge me as I am quite happy with my DSN and am not on the drugs which originally necessitated me seeing a Consultant.

Sorry to hear your troubles.

I'm sure that if you plead your case you should be able to get another appointment. Go speak to your GP.

As for benefits. If you're not working you should be receiving benefits in one form or another. I recommend you contact an organisation called D.I.A.L who would help you get some sort of benefits.
You can also get free prescriptions by contacting P.A.L.S for a medical exemption certificate which you get signed by your GP to confirm you have diabetes.

Good luck.

Jim
