Anything healthy!
I go to my hospital for my diabetes. I keep getting text/phone messages from my gp surgery asking me to go in for blood tests. I have told them numerous times that I go to the hospital for my diabetes, I get told they’ll put it on my notes and a few weeks later I start getting messages again. Does anyone else get this?

Yes
I believe GPs have a financial incentive for getting good results from people with diabetes.
Each year, I am invited to my GP surgery for my annual diabetes review even though I am managed through the dedicated clinic at the hospital.
I decline the invite and ask for this to be added to my records.
The same thing happens the next year.
Once I politely asked what value this would be for me but the surgery nurse never got back to me.
The next year, I had time so thought I would find out They did a single blood test, hba1c and I had a chat with a nurse who asked what long acting insulin I took. She has access to my records so can see I am on an insulin pump which only uses fast acting insulin. She also.asked me if, after more than 15 years on insulin, I had ever had a hypo.
Since then, I have taken their offer of a hba1c test but declined the appointment to review it with someone who has no idea about me, my diabetes regime and my treatment.
The mid year hba1c is a useful check in for me and, I think, gives their accountants what they need

The NHS has a contract with the GP surgeries in the area, and the surgeries are contracted to give every diabetes patient an annual review for which they get paid.

I was initially under the care of a hospital, then discharged to the GP.

I was surprised last year when my GP contacted me twice within the year to do my "annual" review so I actually had two reviews. When I went to the last review they also seemed not to have the prior results of the tests at the hospital (after discharge from the hospital I had a couple of extra HBA1c which had already been pre-ordered by the hospital).

I do not particularly get any advice at the review and the GP tests are not as extensive as the hospital - e.g. last one did not test for triglycerides, only total cholesterol and HDL.....so not the full lipid panel.

If you have time, based on my experience, I would try both and then chose what you get value from.
For me, a review with a nurse who did not understand my condition or my treatment was a waste of my time and her time. I would rather the NHS time and money was spent on something more useful.

I was also being asked to go to both GP and hospital for diabetic checks. I also informed the surgery that as I was attending hospital appts I could not see the pint of doing both. I have two appts a year at the diabetic clinic locally one for the Pump clinic and one for the diabetic clinic. Gp practice has not asked me again

I have recently found out that locally bloods requested by the hospital are not available to the GP and vice versa . They run 2 systems and cannot results requested by the other which seems crazy. I presume it is about who pays for the bloods. If they do not pay for the tests they obviously cannot access the results

My endocrinologist sends a letter to my gp which contains details such as my HbA1C so they have access to it whether they pay for it or not.
Unfortunately, they do not have any clever software so it requires a human being to open the letter and read it. This seems to be a step beyond attaching it to my record.

This may be true, BUT I'd check that out with the hospital path lab, as I was told the same as you by the drs receptionist and nurse, but in fact they could see them, they just have to go onto a different system to do so. A bit of research/digging can be valuable!!

My GP’s the reverse they Do NOT want to know they will not go near Diabetics

They say there not equipped to handle type one Diabetics only type two’s there brilliant for anything else

But will only do things like a repeat prescription for anything to do with my diabetes even when the Hospital Diabetic Clinic changes something it’s a real song & dance to get it through to the GP to change it

I was initially treated by the diabetes nurse at my GP practice, in consultation with a consultant at the hospital. Sadly my diabetes nurse left the practice and care became a bit mishap and my care suffered as a result. I was undergoing chemotherapy and I wasn't getting the help I needed to control my BG whilst on chemotherapy.

Eventually I was introduced to the community diabetes care team. First thing they did having monitored me for a couple of weeks was to change my insulin. What a change. Where I'd been struggling to control my BG it slowly returned to acceptable levels. The community diabetes team inform my GP practice what they are doing for me, they even got me a trial of the Libre 2 BG monitor. I get still my annual review at my GP surgery.

@Sarah69 definitely down to your local health authority/trust - where I live T2 is for GP surgeries to deal and T1 is hospital-based. Confusion ensued with T1/LADA no insulin, and I suspect T2 on insulin would confuse them just as much :arghh:

My consultant, diabetes nurse, nutritionist are all based in one hospital, I get eye tests at another and I get my annual review (feet and bloods) at the GPs, who call about 3 weeks after I have already analysed all the results on Patients Know Best/NHS App and know way more than the local nurse about what the results mean and it's their chance to offer statins irrespective of actual results! My consultant drops a quick physical letter to the GP after I've seen him, which seems bonkers in this day and age, but if that's how their system has been set up, as long as I get seen, I don't care.

Having waited for almost 12 months to see anyone at all after my initial 'diabetes' diagnosis, I'm just glad to be seen, the more tests the merrier I say.

They can indeed see them. Had a receptionist tell me yes she could see them, but no she couldn’t tell me. Rang the hospital. They could see them but also wouldn’t tell me as they had been sent for the Gp to tell me. Nearly a year later I still don’t know what the outcome to some very expensive adrenal tests asked for by my consultant were. After spending some time trying to find out I gave up. I reasoned if something was drastically wrong I would be told. It wasn’t worth the stress trying to find out. My consultant phone call is coming up shortly when I will get an answer. Absolutely ridiculous politics!

There are also patient confidentiality issues. You do have a right to view your private information including results. Write to your Practice Manager and request access under the freedom of Information act to really wake the hive up.

My GP reception will not give me results unless I attend in person, and even then only if GP has reviewed and commented. With those conditions satisfied, I can request a printout of any results on my medical record.

The term "big boned" lol repeatedly told this growing up!

Wow, who would have thought that eh! They also get paid for it, just told my hubby that and he said do they get paid for the drugs they tout too, they probably do I replied. What a sad world we live in. There's me truly believing they had my health in mind. My GP would have had me on meds and who knows what if I had not put my foot down and given a hard Paddington Bear stare!

Speak to the GP practice manager, explain your situation and look to obtain a solution moving forward. It could be as simple as the Hospital requesting a blood sample via your GP surgery as this is becoming more popular to ease the pressure at Hospital. Check with Practice manager.

Commuting, overcrowded spaces, especially after the arrival of covid-19...
I'm not sure of the exact NHS regulation, but I believe all GP practices and hospital clinics should by now be able to provide test results online to patients via secure apps/portal(s). Unfortunately it may be that some are not yet compliant (IT system issues). As a Type 1 my detailed reviews are conducted by the endocrinologist and specialist nurses at the hospital clinic, blood tests (the endo provides the list) can be done either via hospital or GP surgery, foot checks at the GP, retinopathy checks are at community hospital or a nominated optician. Currently my results come up in two separate systems - Patient Access for the GP, plus the hospital's own patients system. Both pretty much duplicate the content of each other. Most blood test results are posted as soon as processed by the lab, a few require doctor sign off first before posting. Annoyingly, the results of my eye tests still only come in letter form (and in much less detail to me than that reported to the hospital clinic). @Sarah69 Perhaps ask your GP practice why they do not have access to your hospital clinic records?
