They do but are obliged to follow the govt mandated diet guide that is "Eatwell" which is of course only advised for "healthy people" who aren't that often in hospital.. crazy eh?Wow surprised by this. Can’t believe hospitals wouldn’t cater for diabetics, that’s terrible

Nuts would be an improvementAgree, absolutely nuts
1. Take some supplies with you. Nuts and olives and pork scratchings and Cheesies don't need refrigeration
2 get friends and relatives to bring food in
3 get food delivered
4 use the opportunity for planned fasts
Terrible isn't it!
I do agree but it all depends what you are in there for. As a diabetic especially on insulin (in addition to whatever else ails you), they watch you like a hawk. If you don't eat (intentional fasting or not), it goes down on your record as if you have an eating disorder or some sort of psychological issue. I know that the record in and of itself may not matter to a person but it could affect any pending operation (whether they will even go ahead with it or not) and any after care in the same fashion. Incidentally when I was first diagnosed and in hospital whilst they monitored me for DKA, they put me on a drip that was automatically givng a unit of insulin an hour. The nurse checked my glucose levels and went into a panic (dropped to the 2s), she force fed me toast, up they shot into the teens, the drip insulin continued, checked again, down into the 2s...more toast...and on it went all night! Accompanied by 'You're causing us a few problems love' as if somehow it was my fault.

The op is a type 2 diabetic not on insulin so comments are tailored to their situation.I do agree but it all depends what you are in there for.
