Hot-Holy ****

I don't like bedclothes even in winter! I use a 4.5 tog in winter, don't wear jim jams, and suffer from night sweats! My friend wears jim jams, cardies, socks, 10.5 tog quilt PLUS blankets. The very thought of all those clothes gives me the heeby jeebies. I really hate being overclothed, bare feet all year round and in the winter, I might, just might put on a cardy while I'm in the car! I have two coats about 5 years old and can't remember ever wearing them except if I'm going for a walk. But not for shopping or going to work as I'm out of the house and into the car and our of the car and into work. So no need for outdoors clothing really.

At the moment I'm sleeping under an empty quilt cover and thinking of getting new pillows. I have a memory foam one and it makes my head sweat so I'm dumping it. Anyone know which type of pillow is the coolest?

The appropriately named 'chillow' might work for you! http://www.chillow.co.uk/

The cold side of the pillow is blissful.

Power naps do help you get a break from the heat then carry on with what needs doing.

I am making a tray of ice cubes every hour and then just sucking on them.

Got the standing fan on full blast.

The heat makes me feel incredibly dizzy, like I'm intoxicated. I can't string a sentence together, cant pay attention or understand whatpeople are saying, my vision goes blurry, tongue goes dry and I want to sleep. It's like having really bad hyperglycemia, worsened by actual hyperglycemia which seems to come out of nowhere. I noticed lots of people's levels are yoyo-ing at the moment.

You'd think I'd be used to the heat but it's actually hotter here than in Trinidad (where my family is from) at the moment. I've always been like that. The sun comes out and you would swear I was blind drunk.

Think I might try those cans of compressed air as well as fans...

It's also good to sweat. Make sure you're well exfoliated so those glands can do their job..

Running your wrists under the tap can help the rest of you cool quickly x

Ta LW, I run my wrists under the cold tap! It's good stuff.

Sad I'm so dispondent. Too drab or too hot! I hate moaning, especially when it's so glorious! I'll happily suffer.

Booked tomoz and friday off - I might, might get summat done! Might not, too hot!

Oh yes! Gentle breeze, no bedclothes. I've got a good feeling about today! I really do.

I finished my temporary job last week and the Matron found me a similar job in another department which I start on 24 July. So I'm having this week off. What have I done with my week so far?

I've had the curtains closed to keep the house cool, I've had the windows and doors open to let the breeze through and I've sat down and sifted through my finances and paid some bills, I've done 4 loads of washing and taken a load of rubbish to the tip. I've been to the supermarket. I've taxed and MOT'd my car (it passed yaaaaaaaaaaaay!) and I was rudely awoken this morning by the council lawnmower! The house needs a good hovering and I can't even THINK about going out anywhere because I can't stand the heat!

But I must admit I'm enjoying doing what I need to do in my own time and having a bit of a lie in in the mornings.

One of these days I'd love a real holiday, swimming pool, the lot!

I decides to make the most of this heat and take my brother to the beach. The sunlight is as intense but there is a good breeze by the coast and of course the sea to dip in.

The only problem is the amount of kids on summer vacation so you will have to thoroughly research trends on beach spots rather than just go to the closest. Also shop around. I was seeing train tickets to the coast over £100 but eventually got two RETURN tickets for my brother and I for £30 and could have gotten them much cheaper if further in advance

Try it. My parents never took me to the beach because they thought it would be top much of a botherthen, I realized it was as simple as hopping on a bus or train. Treat yourself! Just go for a day

You're welcome, Mart x Those chillow things look pretty cool, too. Cold packs are great but you could get an ice burn :/

I'm going to see what the cheapest standing fan in Argos is.,,,

I feel your pain Mart, as I feel like the Wicked Witch of the West right now - I'm MELTING!!! I live in Scotland, but travelled south to Portsmouth, then London, this last weekend, and my bbs went low, felt totally wiped out, and lost my ankles and feet in a bloated swollen mass of water retention! So glad to get back home, still warm, but cooler. I now have ankles again, and my bgs are back to normal (well, my normal, which is still part of the learning curve of adjusting insulin. 7 weeks now and getting there) We always moan about the weather, good or bad, it's a very British thing. Hope you get your work done and still enjoy your time off.

I must admit I'm enduring more than enjoying at the moment. Saturday and sunday are meant to be cooler. At least I've saved a week on buses/train/metro in this unbearable heat.

I moved to Spain around seven years ago, it is warm most of the year anyway but, I still find July/August a struggle. Sleeping is not an issue, if it is simply warm I have the ceiling fan on, if it is very hot I switch the A/C on...yeh I know terrible eh?

Anyway, it is interesting that my doctor warned me that my levels would be higher in the summer heat, and that come the winter I could find myself reducing the amount injected. So as you guys are experiencing the heat wave it might be worth noting that the heat is screwing your control?

regards

Dave

I think the T1s are finding their insulin isn't working like it should (or being used up too fast) and going high in the heat and the T2s (just called my T2 grandma about this) are going low. Or just plain erratic.

Strangeness. I've been all over the place since the temperature shot up.

My readings are extraordinarily high. I think it's due to being less active in the heat. Just stood in a cold bath 5 mins ago to cool my unbearably irritated feet. No good, still too hot. Bah, back to it again if I'm to ever sleep this week.

This heat is ridiculous. The temperature in my room is apparently 26c

Well, just woke up with the nasty hypo symptoms- heart racing, tunnel vision, shaking, sweating was a given and threw up. BG seemed to be dropping a few points every minute. I've been in Somerset doing my own shopping/cooking all week, come back home and my dad has not a sensible food item in the house and it's a mess. >:(

Eating a small bowl of cornflakes with a cup of juice, still feeling shaky.

Ever since the weather changed its been up down up down. My T2 Grandma is ver in Trinidad right now and called me saying she is experiencing the same problem. Aaarrg.

Going to grab some more ice cubes in a minute.

I just drank some cold lemonade and was immediately sick. It's rubbish. Not slept a wink and tired, overtired all day and not very productive. Just one nights sleep would do me. Feel fidgety, restless legs, aching joints, blinding headache and nauseous. I just want to nod, off but too tense and anxious feeling.

Still awake! It's gone cold now. :)
