Anonymous question submitted:

I am a type 2. I am at my wits end trying to get my fasting/morning glucose test down. Example: I can be 6.2 when I go to bed, by morning can be 7.7 and occasionally higher. I have tried having something to eat before going to bed but this doesnt help either. Can anybody give me some help please.

My experience is morning levels are usually higher anyway due to the pancreas not producing as much insulin while sleeping. 7.7 is not bad. I eat whole meal bread and pasta it absorbs far slower than white. Apart from the obvious avoid high sugar drinks and processed food.

cheese/peanut butter...............

i have heard some folk using this food to prologue the digestion process as they digest slow..............

this should help in the morning, after long periods of fasting, when the body is looking for fuel to help you get up........it will see there is digestion taking place, indicating fuel is available and therefore its attempt to increase levels by getting the liver to dump glucose and hormones to resist insulin should be less severe........

this is just a tactic if you like...............

your GP could tweak your meds of course.......

Hi Anon, without being able to ask what your diet is like, its hard to help but keeping your carbohydrates down will generally reduce your blood glucose levels, have a read of the forum, it comes up ALOT, also exercise is very useful if you are able

our blood glucose is higher in the mornings because our livers are unaware of our diabetes and decides we need a glucose boost to start us off until we can get breakfast digested, so it dumps some glucose into out blood, this is just our liver doing what it should do so is very normal, if you can generally get your numbers down, your morning readings should also lower.

its called "dawn phenomenon" if you want to search for it

otherwise think carbs carbs carbs!

best of luck
