How can I lower my BG? It's being very stubborn!

If it was me, I'd go back now and say I wanted the SR, and while I'm at it, my BGs are constantly too high. The metformin will only drop them by 1 to 2 mmols which is not enough, and your diet isn't working. Most guidance says phone the doctor or other medical help if you get two consecutive readings above, I believe,13.9 I think that's a bit panicky personally but certainly your readings are up there and I think deserve more rapid attention. At most, give it another day then go back. You may feel fine, but that's because you've got used to high BGs, and anyway we often feel fine - but your BGs need attention.

I agree although not sure Metformin SR will be the solution as you say they only reduce mmol/l by one or two points. The meals are really low carb, so the figures should be coming down. I am also wondering if this could be T1 LADA. Have a read of this, seems to fit your circumstances quite well. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_lada.html

It took me two weeks to get the Metformin out of him. He knows what my BG levels are and doesn't seem that concerned tbh. He just keeps saying it's better for them to come down slowly. I just wonder how slowly

Nope, my long term GP has just left the practice and not been replaced yet. Couldn't this just be my liver dumping glycogen to keep up with what it considers to be normal levels? My BG has come down significantly since I dumped the low GI/ healthy eating approach I was told to do by the GP!

Your blood glucose can take some time to come down... that said you are not eating that many carbs assuming that what you said in the OP you eat daily? If I were you I would return to my GP to discuss.. tell them you are eating low carb and nothing is happening with the blood glucose..

You could be type I you could be type II with limited pancreas functionality or it could just be taking some time for your BG's to stabilise.. The best advice any of us can give is go back to the doctor and make a fuss.

LOL they've already earmarked me a "difficult" but I am going back in the morning to try and extract metformin SR

and yes, today I have eaten:-

bacon (2) egg, mushrooms
2 slices boiled ham, cucumber and half an avocado
oven baked fish (no breadcrumbs) tomatoes (2) and broccoli
strawberries with a blob of double cream

4 coffees

but my BG has been within half a point of 14 all day

thanks @ all :)
