How do i gain weight?

Hi, thanks. I'm speaking to my GP on Thursday. But in the past (I was never heavy, c.70kg) I found that the only way to put on weight is to eat pizza, chocolate, chips and pasta. I will not do that now - it's other healthy even for non-diabetics. Also potatoes and rice for example give me huge headaches. Are there any healthy carbs that you could recommend? Would it be the slow release ones?

I eat breakfast cereal, pasta, rice, oatcakes, digestives, pulses, fruit, potatoes, sweet potatoes, buckwheat,whole milk, etc. Plan out what suits you over the course of a day. You have to eat consistently to put on weight. I find it easier to eat carbs spread over the whole day rather than large amounts at one meal. Having three decent meals plus two snacks works for me, but it needs to be done day after day in a systematic way to get weight on.

I have reasonable amounts of protein too, and I eat fats. I often add fats to boost my weight eg nuts, salmon, butter, coconut oil, olive oil.

I'm not sure why carbs would give you headaches. Maybe try alternatives like sweet potatoes and other grains? Check with your doctor if you're concerned at all.
 
i've been told cakes, pasta, starchy foods and chocolate won't help me put on weight because it's 'empty calories', although people who advised me to avoid these things aren't diabetic but have been round diabetics long enough. for me I think its an issue of burning more than I eat and also I cannot afford to buy food that amounts to over 3000 calories a day which is my burn rate and i am classed as severely underweight (47kg + 6ft) and yet theres no sign of a overactive thyroid according to my blood tests.

Also mentioned to my doctor that I have occasional pains in my abdomen area whenever at one time I ate a large portion of food, and very little gets absorbed. I researched that it could be either non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or crohns disease, but they keep insisting its just part of everyday life and keep referring to normal readings in my blood tests.
