I've got an horrendous cold virus and also herpes on my lip its so sore and I feel so ill .
My morning reading this morning was 6.5 yesterday I think it was 7.4 .
I'm type 2 and don't have any medication - I've been losing weight was diagnosed in March this year so far lost 2 stone 4 lbs . It's been hard for me cos my dad died in April and that put me back as I lost my appetite then it came back and I have been on a rollercoaster with my emotions ,bad days and good days . Then this really horrendous cold virus making me feel rotten .
Sorry for the rant :(

it seems the body is very able to up conversion in liver of proteins into glucose when we are ill, it is maybe an evolutionary aquired abillity because, when in ancient times when being ill we were not able to go hunting and go collecting foods from nature and then had to live from our own body instead.... those who were able were the ones that survived the best..

Sorry you are having a tough time. I suffer with cold sores too. I do see slight increases in blood glucose levels. A sort of advantage is that I lose appetite, as fasting does help to get control back, along with plenty of fluids. Duvet days until I feel better.
Well done on the weight loss, particularly after your bereavement.

I get cold sores, too but on their own I've not noticed they've had any affect on my BG - but colds do. A day or two before realising I've got a cold my BG goes up and until the cold 'comes out' I never know why. In fact any infection or inflammation affects my BG.

For the last year or so I've used some stuff called Zovirax on cold sores at the first hint of that unpleasant tingling sensation and (so far) I've been able to stop them in their tracks. (Much, much better than the neat medicinal alcohol my Mum used to put on them when I was a kid - that REALLY hurt!)

I've never had a cold sore before but like most I've had some bad ass colds - I can remember it was almost a year ago I posted on the forums about having a bad cold/cough and pink eye just before I was heading to a music festival - I find that when I'm hit by a cold I have to test myself several times as it's a bit of a mystery how my BGs are going to go - sometimes ridiculously high and other times too low - regardless it does affect how the body works.

I'm sure I don't have to tell ya - your best bet is to get back to your normal as soon as you can. Take it easy, try to sleep and stay hydrated. Whenever my spouse gets cold sores it's usually because she's been under quite a bit of stress. From the sounds of it so are you - I'm no expert in dealing with stress but do your best to try and control it.

Have a speedy recovery!

Thank you nearly out the other side of this nasty virus now both of them :)' got back into my daily work out and walking and although i put 2lbs on last week because i was unable to exercise i am feeling better. Just took my blood reading two hours after my lunch which was pasta and sauce and a naught choc ice - reading is 6.8 not bad i reckon . Thank you for the replies all appreciate it a lot xx

I'm a similar as @fletchweb. I don't get cold sores anymore ( since dumping wheat/ gluten) but I now have a gum inflection around a molar and bs is unpredictable. Sometimes high and sometimes low. Testing often.

A cold will often send your BGLs nuts. Your body is now focusing on the fight it has with the cold virus; it will think about the BGLs later. This can happen up to 7 days before you notice that you have a cold and continue for a few days after you think that your cold has gone.
