How hi is high?

I have just tested my my blood on a Accu Chek mobile and it comes back as hi does anybody know how high that is. I have tested at 27 on this machine.
 
On most testers that indicates a reading of over 33mmol.
 
Paul is right, it's over 33.3 (I've just checked) You should wash your hands and check again, just in case it's an error (either yours or the meter)
If you are that high you should be checking ketones (but suspect you haven't the strips)
Since surgeries should still be open, I think you should ring for advice.
I can't remember whether you are on mixed insulin or basal/bolus

Edit just checked, I certainly think with the mixture of medications you are taking you need to contact a professional as you have nothing to lower your glucose quickly.

I start work in 15 mins nd wouldn't be able to see a dr, I have started on Lyxumia last Thursday, I suspect the reason it's high is I forgot to take it yesterday! I mite just inject sum nova rapid to bring it down. Bs now 30.5 no ketones.
 
Hi. Yes, Hi means High and needs reducing urgently. Have plenty of fluids and only a few carbs until it comes down. Keep checking. I guess you may be overweight as you are on Byetta? If not already low-carbing you must reduce the carbs to get the weight and blood sugar down. Insulin doesn't work very effectively if you are insulin resistant thru weight gain. Hopefully the NovRapid will help a bit
 
My blood sugars have come down to 26.5, not a lot considering I've drunk loads of water and been using my bike on and off in the last four hours as I'm a domicilary carer. I'm on 1500mg of metformin and now 10mg of Lyxumia. I was on Byetta up until last Thursday, I was put on Byetta last May as I was overweight due to weight gain caused by insulin.
 
Sorry low caring is not for me its too restrictive. Thanks for your help though.
 
How about just reducing carbs a little then ? Low carbing is not for everyone but it makes sense to try to cut down a bit

I know it makes sense perhaps I can try again with reducing the carbs, it just doesn't excite me, less of what I like to eat.

That's the thing-your meter is showing you that it's dietary changes that are required as well and not just medication
 
Just to clarify ,Tony, as I think you might be misunderstanding Hi and Lo on meterssmeans that the reading is off the scale. The handboook should explain exactly what this means -it can vary between makes. Its not that the reading is inaccurate- just outside the normal range.
 
Hi Sarah. Sorry to be blunt but you don't have any choice ref the low-carbing. The only choice you have is how much you need to reduce the carbs to get your blood sugar into the right range. Weight gain with insulin means your carb intake is too high. There is no other way forward for you to avoid long-term complications. Do have a look at options for carbs as there are some that are low-GI and/or relatively low-carb e.g. 85% Dark chocolate, Livlife bread, beans & pulses and so on
 
I really wouldn't know where to start with low caribing. There's lots of foods I don't like, I'm on a budget and I have 2 sons that would not eat the same as myself. I've seen lots of breakfast ideas on here and I couldn't eat any of them so I'd have to stick to cereal I do not know what to have for other meals. I only like English or Italian food. When I was on insulin I didn't eat more carbs just the same as I always had done.
