HI just a quick question, once you got your blood sugar levels back down to ''normal....ish'' how long was it before you started to feel like your old self again. :)

Hello Iggy

I have been diagnosed T2 3 weeks today and feeling a little better but still got a long way to go..levels coming down very slowly.

Warm regards

Sandra

I think Sandra is about spot on. I am six weeks from diagnosis, and now feel better than I have in years.

Likewise - just over 6 weeks since diagnosis and although BGs came down fairly quick it's only this week that I'm feeling better than I have for ages. Very tired though and I always used to have loads of energy. Sure it'll pass. Strangely as the BGs started coming down I felt worse than I did before I started meds. Guess it takes the body a little while to adjust.

I think diabetes affects everyone differently. I never felt Ill before diagnosis and I don't feel any different now. I sometimes struggle to understand how it makes different people feel.

That's an interesting question. It was about 6 weeks for me before I felt more 'normal', but I'd had a stroke, so was probably concentrating more on seriously rehab'ing myself from that. I know I was off work for 7 weeks and when I went back to work my sugar levels were down as I'd started to take more exercise as part of my rehab.

I am deligted that folks are feeling better a few weeks after diagnosis

however, like Sarah69 , I don't think I feel any different :(

I was diagnosed T2 about 12 months ago following a hospital visit after an accident. One of the 'routine' tests was high so I was referred back to my GP for a fasting test and hey presto - T2 !

I can honstly say that I was unuaware of any of the typical symptoms and after about a year on metformin my morning reading is typically between 6 & 7.

I don't feel better (or worse)
I don't feel I have any more energy
I don't feel any different in myself
The only positive thing I have felt relates to weight loss (which, frankly I could have done without the T2 diagnosis)

sorry to put a downer on things, but as Sarah69 puts it, diabetes affects everyone differently

Well I only went to the doctor because I felt dizzy. And tired and peeing alot but only for a day. I was diagnosed diabetic in January this year. I've low carbed etc and while the weight has come off, wasn't overweight by much anyway and I'm a veggie, and I never ate junk (eg pastry, cakes, biscuits coke etc) my blood glucose has remained the sameish.
But I do feel better lo carbing ironic really as it was Atkins that made me become vegetarian.
Just wonder if I have a naturally high BG, and don't know if thats possible.

It is interesting with the mixed replies.

With me I was really tired for months but put it down to family life/meds etc.
What made me go to get my blood sugar checked was the thirst that I couldnt quench and the weeing. I also had blurry eyes that was checked by the optician and was put down to being near sighted, but as I now know is that the change in eyes was down to the diabetes which I am pleased to say was the first thing that has got back to ''normal'' .

Im just past the 2 wk mark and levels have come down lots but I am still tired. Spoke to GP about the tiredness and he explained that my body has been so used to having a high sugar level that it now needs to get used to being down again.

I was just hoping the tiredness would have lifted as soon as the levels had gone back down. Hopefully a few more weeks and I will be more me again.

Thanks for the replies, I just find it interesting how we are all different . :)

If you still feel tired once your BS levels come down, then get tested for Vitamin D deficiency, Vitamin B12 deficiency, Anaemia and Thyroid. These are also causes for tiredness.
