Did anyone read the story of a couple during the war I think in Shanghai could not get insulin so they bought some scientific equipment and started making their own - in the end they started selling it! When there is a will there is a way!

Uhh, well, yeah. So they had insulin in the end and did not survive on cabbage, which was the statement I reacted to...
even then you can survive on boiled cabbage.

No you couldn't. A T1 will die without insulin.
Totally agree with you Antje77. I'm now fifty-seven years on insulin and my mother and grandmother were type 1 too. I recall being told about a great grandmother being diagnosed in the very early 1900s when insulin wasn't available and she survived around 2 months on cabbage before the illness killed her. I might be wrong but I think in those days diagnosis was by tasting the urine.
