Hi.

Is there anyone out there who knows how long it takes to receive results from an MRI scan?

There is a few years background to this so I really am not being impatient I just want to know how long I have to wait before I can get some help dealing with a leg problem which is almost certainly IMHO going to need physio and maybe a fatty lump I have had for 20 years removed. I know someone doing a sports therapy course who will give me some help in choosing suitable exercises whilst waiting for the NHS help to kick in but he will not discuss it until there is a proper medical diagnosis. I fully accept this as he does know more than my GP about how this difficulty restricts my movement and that it has in the past been diagnosed as a "sprained wrist". Yep. It is leg pain. As I say there is a long history.

The scan was performed 18 June and I was told the results will take a fortnight. Today one person at the GP's told me we are waiting for a radiographer to interpret the results, there are thousands ahead of me in the queue, that the scans are sent to Norway and they might arrive overnight.

Obviously I hope the scans will arrive tonight and I will try and speak to PALS about the matter on Tuesday when I go to the hospital on another matter. I suppose it will not be possible to get NHS scans emailed accross the car park to a private consultant but if there is a way it might make sense to put the arrangements in place then.

Mine have been given within the hour on some.

I wish.

You sound as if you are a regular and being treated my the hospital. That must be bad. I keep telling myself I am lucky as apart from the imagination working overtime on what it might be it is just the pain, being lame, unable to bend sort of stuff. I wonder if collapsing in a heap begging for will help? Meantime I am on the ibuprofen.

I think it all depends on what the MRI is for. I've had them and it took 6 weeks to come back so I'd say give it another couple of days. I know it's not ideal when you're living with pain all the time but if the pain is unacceptable go and see your GP for a decent pain medication.

Sorry cant be more help

Yes I was very regular.
I might have a bench or ward named after me after using the services of the NHS so much.
I have recurring spondylolisthesis which can be incredibly painful and debilitating.
The usual arthritic spine stuff.
Then I have tumours on my spinal cord.
Tumours on my cauda equina.
Tumours on my sacral nerves.
Some days I cannot feel my legs.
Some days I fall over a lot.
Some days not to bad at all.
Looking at me on good days getting out of my car you might think nowt wrong with him that a couple of Ibuprofen won't sort out.

That is terrific. I just need to know what is reasonable before I start pestering. I will phone PALS if I have not heard anything in six weeks. I can keep taking the ibuprofen meantime. Thank you.

The tumours are benign so they aint going to kill me but they give me a whole heap of problems.

Nightmare but the treatment of tumours has come on leaps and bounds since my cerebral one in 1972. Do the ideas in multiple laser targetting and nano technology look hopeful?

Nope.
To many in delicate places.
Told I would end up paralysed.
