How many carbs & LCHF diet.

I'm T2 and LCHF and I count nothing.
I weigh nothing.
Me and numbers don't get on.
I do measure BS with my meter so yes I measure something.
I read labels.
I've gotten very good at deciding what's risky what's safe.
Recent fasting bloods show my cholesterol is down.
My BS are under pretty good control average in the fives.
My blood pressure is down.
My weight is down.
I'm quite happy with the weight I am.
All in all I've kept it quite simple but wouldn't have known where to start without this place.
LCHF sounded very strange when I first came across it but it's working for me.
I'm not too happy with the term high fat.
I don't sit eating fat.
I don't eat the fat on bacon ... the meat itself contains plenty.
I mostly trim meats not eat the fat.
Theres fat in the meat if it's good natural meat.
I like to think I eat normal .... old fashioned if you like.
Normal old fashioned in my book is pre industrialised food.
Like full fat dairy products .... no skimming off my cream thank you.
I have oily fish I use olive oil I use coconut oil.
I snack on nuts and pork scratchings.
I reckon it's only referred to as high fat post skimmed no fat low fat brain washing.
It's not high it's normal.
So low carb normal fats.

Hi @ jackthelad,

Looks like you're doing all the right things. And I like your thinking about LCHF being old fashioned, natural & normal. The concept of this eating plan is freaking out my friends & family. But I guess that's not unusual considering the mainstream way of thinking. I guess I'm gonna have to print off a few copies of the science bit about LCHF from this site. And yes, I agree that this website is going to be invaluable. Best wishes.

Alison.

Cheers Ali. Should the time come then I'll do the calculating but until then I'm keeping it simple.
Family and friends say to me .... that weird diet of yours seems to be working.
Nothing weird about it but I don't bore them with the details.
Doctors were totally against it but now tend to huff and puff a little or remain silenbut have to acknowledge the results.
The negative response now is what about long term no one knows what will happen .... yes they will .... I'm eating normally with a few things cut down or out.
Humppppfff.

Hi Neil

Thanks for the link. I've sent off for the book. It's small enough to carry with me so that's going to be useful. It's quite scary to think that someone diagnosed with Diabetes is pretty much left to get on with it. I've yet to see a nurse specialist & to be honest I'm not sure what/who/how often I should be reviewed. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to give me a clue on that if you don't mind. Once again, thanks for the helpful post.

Alison.
Hi Alison,
The book is not small it's A4 but explains everything in layman's terms on how consuming the fat and the carbs will help you & your diabetes and to lose weight or control it, and what happens. It also explains that you do not need to be flat out low carbing, it's worth the read and it does have diary reporting pages in it.

I cannot really help you with you second question everybody seems to get different treatment, we all should get an EYE Test annually, I had mine and also the feet are supposed to be checked at the same frequency but I have not had a check on the feet and when I asked, it did not appear I was going to get one.

It appears lots on here get there bloods HbA1c every 3 months but I have been told, come back in a year. So I don't know.

There was a thread on here some months ago about a cook book for T2 diabetics produced around 1900 if I remember correctly. Hopefully someone can provide the link. But guess what the dietary recommendations were?

I recommend Trudi Deakin's book too - linked below.

Hi Rod
I've sent off for this book as I think It's gonna be a good resource for me. And yeah, surprising that a book from 1900 would advocate LCHF principles. It amazes me that pre-diagnosis, myself and ALL of my friends/family had never heard of LCHF. Don't suppose I ever would have without joining up here. I'm actually looking forward to reaping the benefits of LCHF eating and hopefully I'll be as successful as many other members. Being overweight has stopped me from doing many things that I really wanted to. Travel being one of them. Maybe in 12 months I'll have lost enough weight to visit that dude ranch in Texas. Lol.
Ali. X
