Hi @Alicki ,

Not going to be much help to you here, but you have to decide I'm afraid. You can go as low as you want as long as you feel comfortable with it.

I'd suggest though that for a couple of weeks, you keep a food diary and work out how many carbs you eat now. Then look at where you can cut down. As a guidance, the governments recommended intake is 250/260g per day (depending on your information source). You might already be below this.

I agree with @urbanracer get to know what your carb intake is now and monitor...

Then you can gradually reduce that carbs that spike you too high

Good luck

This is how long is a piece of string ... and there is I think a mathematic formula to work this out .. but for how many carbs you eat is totally up to you and your blood sugars. I personally had 20g of carbs a day .. I did this for 18months when I realised that my T2 had been pushed into remission ..Yes, I can now eat a bar of milk chocolate without any impact on my blood sugars .. but I don't do it too often as the weight I lost will find its way back to me.

Hello,

Thanks. I used a great online app and found out i had 95g today..
And this is following the diet given to me by my endocrinologist

So wondering....

Whao!!!!! I'm impressed. I'll try 50 first but cutting out fruit is too much for me. The rest no problem

That's a moderately low carb diet already. Provided that it's not also trying to be low fat (which would make it seriously hypo-caloric and almost impossible to stick to) then well done by your endo. :)

Alicki, you didn't mention if you're T1 or T2, what diabetes medications you're taking and what your BG (or hba1c) levels are like. How low you need to go with the carbs really depends on what you need to achieve with BG levels or weight loss etc. Personally I'm eating about 60g carbs per day, which gives enough leeway for one or two pieces of fruit a day, but fruit contains sugars so definitely try not to go overboard with it. I'll typically have something like either an apple or a pear plus some berries.

I stay below 20 with just above ground veggies such as salad greens celery radish mushrooms and a few nuts and seeds

Thanks!! I'm in a weird situation. I have hyperinsulin after eating (3500pmol) and am insulin resistant (metabolic symptoms). I started out the year as clearly pre-diabetic (5.9/6.0). My house mate is diabétic and was testing with his mètre.
What alerted me was constant nausea after eating sugary stuff.
By the Time i went to the doctors, my blood sugar was back to 5.4.
The GTT test results were really weird: 75g glucose

0 hour (fasting) : 5.2
1st hour: 4.2
2nd hour: 7.3
3rd hour: 6.0
'
My endo says not diabetic but the plunge from 5.2 to 4.2 and back up to 7.3 is really weird and I Want to know why not just, "everyone s différent!" Dixit endo!

Any ideas???
Best

I am T2 but moved to insulin couple of weeks ago, still trying to get the dose right! But I aim for around 60 or 70g carbs, though my levels are all over the place.

Morn reading around 18 and same in evening but hypo about 10am each day, so end up taking glucose tabs and eating a sandwich, then it jumps to 11.8 or so!

Everyone is different, but was advised to buy Carbs & Cals (Carb & Calorie Counter) book, it is great, have a visual image of your plate of food with all details. ISBN 978-1-9082611-5-1

Carb counting is the way to go…

As a teenager and in my 20s I used to have a loss of energy about 3 pm which got steadily worse until I started low carbing - gradually cutting out dense carbs as I realised that they made me feel ill. I've always eaten far fewer carbs since then, and been careful to spread them through the day. I'd advise looking carefully at all you eat and finding out the carb count for the amount you eat, then follow up with blood glucose testing and assess how you feel. That way you can take control.

I will tag @Brunneria as she might know why your BG took such a big drop after the GTT.

I also eat less than 20g of carbs a day. Once I got used to it its surprisingly easy and I've felt so much better with my blood glucose under control.

If you want to lower your carb intake it would really be best not to eat fruit. Fruit is very high in a sugar called fructose which is only processed in the liver - meaning eating fruit can give you a fatty liver. A small amount of berries are okay preferably with something high in fat like double cream.

Have a look at www.dietdoctor.com - there are lots of videos, blogs and recipes on there aimed at people who want to reduce their carbs.
