How many times do you test your BG?

It depends - I'm a type 2 so that makes a difference - but I test every time I eat something I've not had before - or if I feel odd at all.

My dad is on Insulin and he tests before every meal and 2 hours afterwards - and if any reading gives him cause for concern.

Around 8 times a day.

All depends on your type, your regime and your body.

4 times daily is the minimum for the DAFNE regime. I have a history of sleeping through hypos, so if I wake in the night I always test. If I don't wake spontaneously, I set an alarm to test at night at least once a week. I often test after meals or between meals to keep an eye on things because my doses need adjusting frequently. I don't drive - if I did, that'd be an extra test each time before driving. Overall most days its 5 or 6 but often more.

If you have very stable bs, have good hypo awareness day and night, rarely get ill and always eat the same things, fewer tests would be fine. But if you drive, have frequent hypos or viruses, doubt your hypo awareness, or do a very active or unpredictable job it would be irresponsible not to test several times a day.

Even 1 test per day is wasteful if you don't act on the results.

Hi, I test 4 times daily though if am high in the 20's and feeling rough test 6 times daily. DAFNE is a course to teach MDI multiple dosage injections [injectors-persons] how to carb count and bolus correctly for meals. Anna.x

When I have a testing day I test 8 times a day. On the same days I take at least three BP readings too. I don't do this every single day as I don't think I need to any more as I know what my levels are now when I have eaten the same food. My levels are extremely stable. (I am T2 BTW). In addition my Endo has asked me to do full testing regularly and write down what exactly I have eaten too and she reviews this at my 3-monthly appointments. If I don't feel well I test throughout the day as levels can change. I always test before and after meals when I eat something new until I find out the portion size I can have or if I can't have that food at all.

I test at least 8 times a day, im T1 and use an insulin pump. I guess it varies from person to person. It'd probably be more if i drove too.

Hi

My son is 3 (today!) and we test roughly 8 times a day. On waking, 2 hours after meals, before lunch, dinner & his bedtime. If he wakes in the night we test him then too.

We need to test this often as his levels can vary so much and also because we carb count so his insulin at mealtimes depends on blood sugar level & carbs consumed.

hi
the least we test in a day is 4 times breakfast, dinner, tea and bedtime but more often than not its more than as dylan does alot of sport so we test before and after that too plus if we have any hi or low readings we then do extra tests. i dont think a set amount is right i think we all test the right amount for ourselves and there is no right or wrong answer to this question.
