How much carbs?

I have been reading all day and still can't get an answer so I figured I would just ask those in the same boat with more knowledge.
I understand that the amount of carbs varies person to person but is there a ballpark figure I am aiming for?
I have to start calculating how many I am having in a day but is it a case of having to have a certain amount or can I go ahead and eliminate them as close to zero a day as possible?

Any advice about this would be appreciated!

well..... you could go down as low as 20g a day, potentially feel ****** for few days, get great bg readings nd then work your way up and see what happens to your bg or weight or both or....as i did go down slowly until you hit a level you feel is comfortable, gives you good bg and weight loss

there are no guidelines im afraid, its trial and error

my main reason for the slow reduction was because i considered 30g a ridiculous impossible target....i was wrong

I'm impatient and wanted to see good bg results after a period away from the forum. I started around 25g of carb a day. I was lucky and had no carb 'flu'. Its only 2 weeks and my daytime readings are great. I'm eating really well thanks to the recipe thread and the what did you eat today thread. I'm learning more every day and I've lost 8 lbs which I'm thrilled with. Still a stone to go. I'm aiming to introduce 5g of carbs every week until I find my level. Good luck

Some people feel great, lose weight and are happy on 120g

Others knock it down to 75g and have the same result.

Or 50, or 40. And some never count and just give up bread, rice and potatoes.

Me?
I went down to 40-60g and thought I was feeling excellent.
Until I went down to 20g ish, and haven't felt this good for decades. But I've never tolerated carbs well.

There are two ways to find your personal level:
Cut down drastically and then slowly add carbs till you feel bleugh and your BG levels go to pot.
Or
Cut down gradually until you stop feeling bleugh and your BG levels improve.

Both work.

I don't understand this perceived need to measure stuff when your T2.
I'm T2 and have gone low carb by cutting out the obvious ... sugar cereals bread spuds rice pasta etc etc
It's working great.
Surely I don't need to get onto the counting and weighing wagon until it isn't going so great no?

I have no idea how many grams of anything I eat ... is that bad?

I didn't count carbs for years, then fairly recently I used myfitnesspal to work out what I was eating in calories and grammes (I was mainly after grammes of protein). It was fascinating. And helped me spot some hidden carbs I hadn't noticed.

But since that, on a totally frivolous level, I have enjoyed being able to state with certainty what my intake is. ;)

I am on 15 grams of carbohydrates a day for the moment and testing. Eating ca 1800 calories/day. Early days.

As has been said, it is all trial and error, and you can start with one amount then change it, but always eat to your meter.

Personally I really could not envisage the rest of my life without bread or spuds. The rest didn't bother me. I devised a diet round the foods I like using portion control for the carb elements. I started with 126g a day. That didn't work so I reduced to 95g. I still wasn't happy, so ended up on 60 to 65g and am still on that amount. That is my safe amount. I can still eat a slice of bread (heavily seeded wholemeal) or have 2 or 3 small spuds (roasted, boiled or fried, not mashed or jackets) so I am happy and can sustain this without feeling deprived or tempted. I could not have done that without my meter and my jug scales. But that is me personally, and will not apply to everyone. I also stuck to 1200 calories whilst I was losing weight. This has now been increased but my carbs will stay the same.

Whichever and whatever, just make sure you can sustain it.

I think everyone balances there own way. I use myfitness pal and aim for 1200 calories and 60 g of carbs. I think there is a formula for setting your calories.
