How often should I request Hba1c?

I do not have diabetes
I was diagnosed with prediabetes last October and my mmol was 44. In February, 2015 this had dropped to 43mmol and in June it was 38 mmol.

Should I still request a test every three months?

funny enough lynn I asked my doc that very question today after i had a couple of three monthly tests. his answer was six monthly now would be good enough as i seemed to have my levels under control.

My initial ones were 3 monthly then I was moved to 6 monthly. I queried this with my nurse and asked to stay on 3 monthly blood tests without the review with the nurse if all was well. This was refused because I have good control and am not medicated.

There is no point it being any more frequent than three months since it is an indication of your sugar levels over a three month period. Anyone who has good control needn't have the test more often than six months. One year is possible for people that are trustworthy. I am not one of them. I view my visit to DN as a great incentive to behave but when I am outside the DN minus three month period I fall off the wagon a bit.

If I only had a once yearly test there would be nine months of naughty and DN is not going to risk it.

Hi. 6 months will be fine and even a year might be OK unless your meter says otherwise. If you don't have a meter do get one and then you can re-assure yourself whenever you want. It's not the same as an Hba1C but will be a good indicator.

Think I'm with you on this one. If my doctor is happy to do three month tests, then I think it will help keep me on the srraight and narrow!

Mine was three months then six months,I have now been told I will be sent for so I dont know how long it will be.

Out of interest, how many three-monthly tests did you have?

Ally , that is bad management by your doctor. If I were you I would insist on one, and insist on staying at least 6 monthly. Your BS isn't stable and your meds need reviewing more frequently than 12 months at the moment.

(Lynn - sorry to derail your thread)

No problem. Sensible comment.

I currently have a test and review every 6 months despite being relatively well controlled (hba1c 36).
