I was told I'm prediabetic in July after giving birth, since then I've cut out carbs, and sugar. I do eat whole grains, etc quinoa. I haven't started exercising as yet, but I have been eating a lot healthier. And I lost weight. How quickly can I move from prediabetes to diabetes?
I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes after suffering a heart attack over 10 years ago. I try and manage my weight and exercise, but not always easy. About five years ago I had help with my diet from a young lady at my local pharmacy and lost four stone. Just going along, getting weighed and keeping a food diary. I think most pharmacies offer this as a free service. This took me down to normal levels. Unfortunately she went off to Uni and there was no one else available at the time to help. I have been struggling to keep he weight off ever since, even though I do try to eat sensibly and do regular exercise. I know it can be done!![/QUOTE
I agree it can be incredibly difficult to stay on track, I struggle have with that at times. I do badly want to reverse my pre diabetic. That is my goal
Yes, we get symptoms and complications mainly neuropathy and retinopathy at around 20%Medically it would only take the time of your next hba1c showing higher bgs to change you from prediabetes to diabetic. (3months) or yearly as most prediabetic patients are tested on the nhs.
I'd really love to know if I have ever been tested for diabetes pre 2002 diagnosis date.
I had symptoms 40yrs ago. Prediabetic at 6yrs old or full diabetic type2? I wonder.
Do prediabetics get diabetic symptoms?
Hey David, I'm very new to this game but my understanding is doctor one was correct - 6.0 isn't prediabetic, 6.3 and above is, doctor two was incorrect, and practice nurse was correct - 6.8 for a diabetic is good, not good for someone who is prediabetic though. I also understand that a reading shouldn't be taken in isolation but rather as part of a picture. What is the HBA1C reading, how consistently are fasting readings high, what does a blood glucose result say etc. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable getting a diagnosis from one stand alone result, but as I say, I'm new to this... My HBA1C was 40, so below pre-diabetic but enough to scare me (particularly as I'm being investigated for PCOS which is linked to insulin resistance). My fasting blood glucose is consistently between 6.3 and 6.9 which would suggest pre-diabetes or impaired fasting glucose. So I'm going to speak with my doctor when I see him next to get his thoughts and possibly more tests. Most people with pre-diabetes may not get full blown diabetes but how much of that is due to lifestyle change early on? How many people with diabetes were prediabetic first? It's interesting stuff. I've not read anything to suggest that prediabeties or insulin resistance isn't a precursor to diabetes, and from what I've seen, a lot of people manage their prediabeties drug free through low carb or lifestyle change so I'm not sure it is financially motivated. But as I say, no expert here!Hello.I think all this pre. stuff is thought up by big pharma and the medics.Lets invent another disease to boost profits. I showed my doctor a reading of 6 mml on my meter. He said that's fine.I showed another doctor a 6 mml reading she said i was prediabetic. When i last saw the practice nurse. i said this morning my fasting blood sugar reading was 6 .8 mml. She said oh that's a very good reading. So where do you go from there? I read a report recently, that most people termed as prediabitic ,do not develop full blown diabetes. by all means check your blood sugar levels.I personally would not worry about it.

I have read that pre-diabetics are much more likely than "normal" people to have heart attacks and strokes. And there are people on this forum who say they have already started to have diabetic complications even though they are classed as pre. Personally, I recently found out that I am pre-pre diabetic with an A1c of 41. I see that as an opportunity, a last chance, to turn things around or at least stop them in their tracks. I am doing my utmost to take advantage of that opportunity. Many people here did not have that chance, and only found out about their condition when it was much farther advanced. Yes, medical ignorance and misinformation is frustrating, but I'm not going to react to that by destroying myself, particularly as I am in touch here with many experienced people who are willing to take time and trouble to help me.Hello.I think all this pre. stuff is thought up by big pharma and the medics.Lets invent another disease to boost profits.
