How to calculate my protein intake - type 2

Next question:

I have tried a couple of online calculation thingies. My body weight if I were slim is around 120lbs, I look scrawny if any less. The totals seem to range from 100-130g protein as my requirement.

that sounds a little high to me?

Yes, only count the grams of protein that food contains, so for your egg it would be 6g.

How have you calculated that 55g protein may I ask? I eat almost twice that amount most days, 5ft 3ins and just under 9 stones. However, I always have. It isn't something I have ever considered restricting - it is too important for life, health and well being, particularly as we age.
Where I became more conscious about protein was when I got to my 50s and started to try and sort myself out a bit by going to the gym and it was therecthat I became aware of needing additional protein to build some muscle, particularly after a gym session I recall. So I used to make sure I had protein after a gym session aswell as other times in the day. But still never counted the amounts.

The whole idea of counting protein intake is new to me, the idea coming from this forum.

Why don’t you just say “stuff it” and go for more so as to be certain. I just knocked back 60grams of Camembert which has 12-grams of protein in it.

Edit : 12 grams of protein.

because, like carbs in the beginning, I have no concept of protein values and thought i was eating lots and lots of protein. Also, too much protein can affect blood sugar levels.

Okay so you are trying to get the amount spot on if you can. Not too much or too little.

I think more trying to find out what i am aiming for as a reasonable amount, and also educate myself more on the macros in foods rather than just being aware of the carb count, so i can choose my foods more wisely, as I am one of the people who just dont lose weight, and put it on very easily. Small changes make big differences for me.

Get ya. I see exactly what you mean. And it gets harder to do that as we get older and the “windows” we need to operate in narrow up.

I learned something there too with the protein counting. Thanks.
