Hi all,
Back in 2012 I had gestational diabetes. After giving birth the tests kept saying I don't have diabetes but I still have manny of the symptoms. Especially the hunger headaches in the second half of the day. The following year I got pregnant with twins and I've really suffered with weight gain. Before kids I could eat whatever I wanted and not put on weight. Now after kids I find my body super sensitive. My doctor told me that if I want my blood sugar levels to be stable I need to eat 6 small meals a day, but I just find that this constant eating and small portions really irritate me. I want to have s big meal and then forget about it for a few hrs. Also, the dr said all my meals should be balanced with protein carbs and veg and fruit. But far out for me to fit that in every meal the calories count up pretty high. Like I've been told that if I want to lose half a kilo a week I have to consume 1200 calories a day and for me this is like only eating twice a day and u just can't do that. I feel like this is impossible. I never had to be cautious about what I ate and now I'm struggling. Can someone please advise on what to do? Will a dietician help. I'm also hungry most of the time.
A typical day for me would involve two bowls of rice bubbles at 10am. A decaf coffee at 1pm. At 2pm I might have a multigrain sandwich with haloumi cheese and capsicum. At 4pm I'll have 2 bananas. Then for dinner 2 chicken schnitzels with potatoes broccoli and carrot.
Hi
@Nicolii . You are dealing with a lot of conflict when it comes to food. I can't empathise with the giving birth to twins - my wife did that. They just had the 18th birthday.
When I was younger -I was a competitive body builder. If I wasn't hungry - I would eat a kilo of pasta on its own and withing 15-20 minutes I would be starving!! Oh my goodness did I grow!! I am not advocating this approach, BUT this is what you are doing - the two bowls of rice bubbles - will only make you hungry and the bread in the sandwich, the potato and the carrots will do exactly the same. These carb rich foods are making you hungry and causing problems with your diabetes. You said you are 30 kgs over weight. There are many on this sight, who have lost that in the first few months of being diagnose - by cutting out carbs (not just me)
Now down to the issues: I typically eat 6-7 meals a day. I also exercise twice a day. I never feel hungry - I never feel stuffed. I am managing my blood sugars. All good so far.
Weight loss - having smaller more frequent meals will ingnite your metabolism more than having the same calories crammed into fewer meals.
Each meal should have some balance especially if you are trying to control blood sugars.
My diet - please don't follow it to the letter or even try to copy it - we are all different but it will show that you can eat and count calories whilst managing your blood sugars. ( One point - I cook virtually everything I need for the day, first thing in the morning and then eat it cold - it's an aquired taste.)
5 black coffee and 30 mins on treadmill
6 3-4 omelette (one yolk) with spinach and tomatoes
8 oat bar and a banana
12 (see 6)
4 (see 6)
6 oat bar, black coffee
7 - treadmill and weights session
9 protein shake
I will substitute salmon or sardines 2-3 times a week. At week ends my breakfast is the same but with extra bacon. I sometimes switch out spinach for broccoli.
I drink black coffee, black tea and green tea and lots of water with lemon in it.
I have diabetes every day - so I treat it the same every day - this works for me. (I'm human, I do cheat every now and then.)
I'm guessing your twins will be 5 years old now - time to start looking after YOU - so that you can spend quality time running around and playing with your kids.
Good luck
Sean
