I am managing my Type 2 diabetes with Metformin, carb-free diet and exercise, but I am losing weight fast. Is there anything that I can eat which will allow me to gain weight, but not raise my BS?
Hi . . .
After switching to LCHF diet a few years back, I was in a similar situation. I finally had my blood-sugars under control, but I was continuing to lose weight when I didn't really have any to lose.
I solved this by adding Coconut Oil into my 2 or 3 large coffees each day. This added upwards of 400 kCal to my daily intake, and arrested the weight loss without affecting my blood-sugars at all.
I know it's difficult to add calories into your diet without adding Carbs. When we eat, most meals tend to be a mix of Carbs, Protein and Fat. So it's tricky to add calories without adding Carbs and/or Protein which both can affect your levels.
I was really happy with my solution becuse it negated the need to add any other meal or snack into my routine, and it was pure fat rather than a mix of Carbs, Protein and Fat.
That was a few years ago; today it's much easier now that I know about Bulletproof coffee (delicious), and have moved back to the UK where pourable double cream is available everywhere.
Of course, you might hate the thought of adding Coconut Oil and/or butter into tea or coffee; many do. If so, maybe try double cream (Tescos is 50.6% FAT, 1.6% CHO) in tea and coffee?
I think the best idea is to try to find a way to add more pure Fat, or at least very high Fat, into your daily intake. The above change to my coffees works for me; if it's not for you then maybe add much more butter onto your vegetables in meals? Or go for much fattier meats, and cuts of meat? Or use much more oil in your cooking?
Don't know if any of these is applicable to you, and your style of eating, hopefully so . . .
Regards

Antony
