I saw an advertisement for this and my attention was grabbed when I heard they are discussing the High Fat, the Medeterranean, the Cookie and Paleo diets.

It'll be interesting to see how the High Ft and Paleo options come out.

Enjoy!

You've missed two good weeks previously with other diets mentioned and checked out. Been interesting. Recording it now.

Yes, it was an enjoyable series (if you're not completely horrified by a cookie or fast food diets) but I feel that the longer-term dieters should have had more support. I was especially impressed that the Paleo lady lost a stone in one month - then only 2 lbs total in the other 3 months! It is true that most of the early weight loss on lower carb diets is due to fluid release from the muscles, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect a steady 2lb loss per month afterwards...

I dunno.

I have been Very low carb high fatting for over 2 years now.
Lost over 20 lbs without effort, then I plateaued for nearly a year despite NUMEROUS efforts, and have been fluctuating over the same 7 pounds (up - down - up) for the last 6 months.

Been doing some reading (Fung and on this blog
http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2016/01/dont-be-a-ketard1.html#more ) and there are PLENTY of reasons why some people, especially women, especially middle aged women do not find Paleo, LC or LCHF as the automatic solution.

Pretty normal for just about anyone. Obviously, there becomes a point when 2lbs/week is no longer achievable.

Over time, your body can adapt to the caloric deficit (and yes, a LCHF involves a deficit) and reduce its energy requirements. That's why some people have to begin calorie counting, exercising more, or in some cases doing "refeeds" which are days where you consume larger amounts of carbs to keep your metabolism from slowing.

I see people mention this al the time, but what is the explaination for how and when the body adapts, when do you know?

That's a phenomenal question and it deserves a much more thorough response than I can give. Basically, it's with respect to our body's natural survival instinct. Our bodies can make short and long-term adjustments when there are changes to its available energy (calories).

When there are minor changes to energy consumption, our bodies don't see this as a risk to survival, but may make slight changes over time to adapt to the new "normal" energy consumption. Plus, as we lose weight, we become more efficient (less weight to lug around) which means we require less energy to perform the same functions.

When there are significant changes to our energy consumption (severe calorie restriction), our bodies can see this as a threat to survival. In an attempt to conserve energy and reduce requirements, our bodies can slow our metabolism, retain fat, and even start to break down muscle.

Unfortunately, I have direct personal experience with both types of weight loss

Fair enough, I was probably projecting even though that woman was at a much lower weight/ size than I was at diagnosis. The curve from 1st in one month seemed too steep, and they showed her cheating once, from which I inferred that she continued doing so (again, projecting).

I still feel they should have shown some support from the dietician along the way -we all do better with support (or am I projecting again)...
