How to measure fat content in body

I've been low carbing for 2 weeks now, also reducing my calories to 1000 to 12000/day. There's been an impressive weight loss of 6.5 kilos (14 pounds) and I'm really chuffed. Brain fog is cleared and I'm not really hungry (amazing for me after 30 years of yo-yo dieting and days when I felt I could eat a chocolate cow!).

My question is the following. How do I now how much fat I've actually lost? Hubby says most of the loss is water (I think he's just jealous!). I know it's possibly too late to find out after the recent weight loss, but is there any way I can track this with (hopefully) further weight loss?

I'm a T2 by the way, diagnosed 5 years ago but have been ignoring it until neuropathy hit... Taking metformin 850 x 2 per day.

I think there are some scales you can get to measure body fat - but I just measure my waist as it's the fat around your internal organs (your visceral fat) that's the important stuff to get rid of.

Now if you'd gained there would be no one saying 'oh it is just water weight' - now would there.
There are weighing scales which estimate the percentage fat in the body - they seem to work - but quite honestly - take the loss for what it is - a loss.
If you are eating low carb foods then you are going to be losing fat - it is more effective than fasting for reducing fat in the body - someone did an admittedly small test, but that is what it showed.
Just practice your smug face in the bathroom for when you need it.

The initial weight loss is water but really is no great amount. Congratulations on ALL of your weight loss and, yes, hubby probably is a wee bit green with envy ;)

Look at the scales that measure body fat on Amazon but as was said earlier, a tape measure is my preferred way and far cheaper. Keep up the good work, you're going great guns.

Thanks all, I will check out the fat measuring scales on Amazon (a birthday is coming up soon, will have to choose between the posh handbag and some useful scales ;)
I have measured my waist and I've lost 6 cm, yeah! (don't know how much that is in inches, sorry!).

Thanks No2D, that's really interesting, I'd no idea about any of this. I'm plodding along on LC, but I must say it's wonderful not to have cravings. I even "forgot" to have lunch yesterday at home.... Me, who've thought that possible!!!

Just track your waist size as it is a good reflection of how much fat your body has.

Thanks, I've just ordered an Omron scale on Amazon for €99 (I'm in Paris). I'll have it tomorrow, yeah!!!

Thanks for the tip, DCUKMod...

Jolly good!

The way I use mine are to step on/step off daily; just doing my weight. That just helps me have a sense of where I am, whilst being unfussed by the daily fluctuations we all experience from time to time. Weekly, I do the whole thing, referencing my profile, and using the hand grasps to check the added stuff like fat, muscle, visceral fat scores. I'm sure you'll find your own way to get what you want from them.

I like mine so much I have one set here and another at our home from home abroad.

Does the Omron allow saving offline, the Tanita I have was circa £150.00 with the grip handles. I notice the Omron 511 is much cheaper.

No, there's no bluetooth or anything if that's what you're asking.

I can see how in the early days the tracking down could be useful, and convenient not having to physically write anything down, but aside from not being familiar with the Tanita scales when I bought mine, I doubt I'd have been able to justify the additional spend (twice) to myself.
