How to prevent the post breakfast spike

Ooooh did you enjoy? Hopefully the protein from the fish helped avoid too much of a spike. I am doing well thank you. Managed to have no spikes at all today, including breakfast, which is the first day for me since the CGM. Had meatballs and mash at IKEA for dinner with no real impact! Just coming to the end of the first sensor and I really feel like it has become a safety blanket. Thanks for checking in
Interesting, as mashed potatoes (or indeed any potatoes) seem to send me sky high and well over 11. It's a shame as I quite like potoatoes but I think I'll not be having them again.

The fish and chips sent me to 10.4, down to 8.6 over two hours so I won't be having them again. They were nice though and pretty cheap where I live. Good that you didn't have a spike at all, it's a good feeling when the line hardly moves on the graph isn't it.

I guess different carbs affect people differently. Potatoes never seem to be an issue for me as long as I eat along side protein. I can't even have a tiny bit of pasta though, or white bread. Pleased to say I have had my second morning of no post breakfast spike! Really glad you enjoyed your treat dinner even if just a one off.

I seem to be the same with white bread and white pasta. Congrats on more breakfast's that are spikeless, these CGMs are very useful. Mine has run out now but I'm confident-ish of what to do to keep it low. A brisk 20 minute walk 15 minutes after eating seems to really help too. I live on the coast so quite enjoy the walks.

Crisps don't increase my figures at all, and chocolate doesn't seem to do much.

Oooh chocolate really? I haven't been brave enough to try, but I really miss it. Crisps seem fine for me too. I have had several days now with no dawn phenomenon or spikes above 10. Not sure if it is hormones or just my body getting better at coping. I have 1.5 weeks left on my current sensor and then I will have a break from it to go on a trip with my friends. When I get back I will decide if I want to buy another or just stick with finger pricks. Glad the walking helps you! I am also by the coast and love walking, but have had an ulcer on my foot for a while so have been limited. It has healed now thankfully

It isn't the chocolate it is the sugar added to make it cheaper to produce. I have 85% coco all the time - though I don't eat much of it theses days - I use more around Christmas time making bars with slivered almonds or little treats with desiccated coconut, walnuts and a single sultana or half a glace cherry all held together with chocolate.

I don't like dark chocolate at all sadly, only milk or white.

Same here, I don't really like dark chocolate much, it's the milk chocolate that I like. Even though I know it doesn't spike me I've still not had any since. Think I'm saving it for a rainy day - but even then I'd only have a couple of chunks. I really miss Yorkie bars which were 3 for £1 and now are 3 for £1.75 so that helps me not to buy them.

Glad to hear your ulcer has healed and you can go on walks again. I only recently moved to the coast and am really enjoying the walks (which my teenage self would be agast at). Funnily, it was my feet that got me diagnosed a couple of years ago - I had no other symptoms at all, didn't feel ill or anything. They felt a bit strange so I went to the GP and got diagnosed with 110 and put on metformin.

I'm not sure about the stick strips as I don't fancy pricking my finger all the time - though I think it's just one of those things that as soon as you do it it is fine. I didn't really want the CGM, but with the trial I went for it and now I realise just how useful it is. Hope you have a good trip away, I'm going on holiday in November so I'm going to keep my Dexicom trial and wear it there. It's an all inclusive so I'm hoping that I'll just be able to pick the low carb stuff from the buffet.

Seems like you have had such a similar story to me. Mine was be

Sounds like you have had a similar experience to me, mine was only detected because of a wound on my toe that wasn't healing. No other symptoms and came back 107!. Enjoy your trip, I am also going on an all inclusive and think the same as you - the buffet means I can shape the meal proportions how I want to

Hi Mrs SLD. How are you getting on? It's been a week since I stopped using mine and I miss it. It's a bit annoying that I never feel any different whether my sugar is high or not so I have no idea if I am doing ok or not - I'm eating roughly the same stuff though so presumably it is.

I'm looking forward to plenty of meat in the holiday buffet but no bread/potatoes. I've had a bit of a turbulent year so it will be nice to have a bit of a break.

Hi Peter! Well I had a call last night booking me in to see a diabetes specialist team (I had apparently been on the waiting list since I was diagnosed!) for a cancellation this morning! Had an hour with the specialist nurse and it was really great. She was able to download all the data from my libre and it showed her some graphs etc that I hadn't seen before. She is really pleased with my results. The last 10 days I have been 100% in range. She said it would be fine to go back to finger prick testing when I feel ready as I seem to have really stabilised. They are just trying to figure out if I am definitely type 2.

Are you able to finger prick now and then just to get a sense of things? Might reassure you. I am sure if your diet is the same your numbers will be fine. When are you off on holiday? I go a week tomorrow, so excited.

keeping fingers crossed for you ps the graphs and stuff that you saw whilst there are available for you to see as well ;)
you can view those graphs via going to https://libreview.com/ then entering your country followed by login details you set when initially setup the app (if you forgot the password you can reset it too). goto glucose reports. then report settings. it gives an option to export the data as a pdf file so you can download it. feel free to change report timescales etc personally i download a monthly glucose report. (every 2 sensors more or less) and have carbs foods etc ate all marked down on it using the add note on the app itself at meal times alongside any exercise i do.

best wishes to the future

you could try making your own hot chocolate using some dark chocolate :) nice texture gives melt into some full fat milk should give it a milky chocolate taste with a hint of canderel or simular sweetner.

personally love almond milk with some dark chocolate thats pretty low carb and doesnt give as much as a rise as milk does don't even need any sweetner for it :)

That's great news, well done - shows that it's really paid off for you and I'm really pleased for you.

Hope you really enjoy your holiday and get to relax. I'm not going until November so it's a couple of months wait for me - wish I was going next week.
