Personally I'm not that bothered by my liver adding glucose in the morning. It seems to be a natural response. Currently it still happens but starts from a much lower level and while it rises as much as it used to (in percentage terms) it never goes anywhere I'm not comfortable with. I think it's about training your liver to accept the lower level as the norm.
If I do any exercise early on I have found that this only encourages my liver to believe it was right all along and that I probably need even more fuel. What seems to stop it is food, and a very small amount will do it for me - four almonds, for example. I wouldn't pile more carbs on top, and it doesn't justify a meal as I'm not ready for a meal.
As an experiment I once let it run and tested hourly - BG was still rising (slowly) at 2pm when I got bored. Not a bad thing as it uses up the stores.
