A massive well done Diabetes UK. I LOVE this site. You are leading the way globally from what I can see. Here in Australia the recommendations are still a high carbohydrate diet and natural fats are purported to be unhealthy.
I am an ex-nurse midwife (29 years) WAS pre-diabetic and I also run a business as a lifestyle coach supporting people who wish to follow a low carbohydrate diet. I myself have done so for 18 months and have never felt so well. My blood sugars are normal, my weight reduced easily and I am maintaining it with ease. The list of positive effects are too many to write down here but needless to say, I wholeheartedly support and encourage everyone (not just diabetic) to eat this way. I say everyone because all too many are heading towards diabetes with their current diet and this is also completely preventative not just a treatment.
THANK YOU for your courage to step away from conventional thinking and actually sharing the right information based upon current research, something most governments and countries are not doing THANK YOU.

I know the names can be a bit confusing, but as far as I know this site is not associated with the charity/body Diabetes UK. They are still pushing the same old line that Diabetes Australia does - carbs, carbs and more carbs :(

See Zoe Harcombe on the subject of the Diabetes UK guidelines:

Nooooooo!! Then this needs sharing everywhere. I have shared it compulsively with friends and work (I am a weight loss coach). It is about time that everyone caught up!

Great to hear that many are using this site in Oz. Sad that most of the world's establishments still push high carb mantra; Groupthink based on ignorance. Yes this site is not connected with Diabetes UK (the 'official' UK organisation) which I'm also a member of. It's interesting that their support site which I also view has gradually been moving away from the high carb mantra and occasionally I'll lob a suitable post into it! Sadly their magazine, Balance, hasn't moved on far enough yet.

Well said, everyone. It seems like the dots are beginning to join up. I've been on the forum only a short time but it increasingly feels as if we're really getting somewhere.
I urge everyone to be more outspoken about what is being done here. Every little push will help tip the balance. Even if we risk the annoyance of our GPs and DNs, Changing the national media view of us is difficult but several forum members have reported sympathetic articles in their local newspapers.
Not long ago I thought the nodding dog method was best in the surgery and outside. I've changed my mind.

I've never done the nodding dog thing, I'm the one in charge of my body. Generally, I've found that doctors respond to questions and they will spend the time to explain things if you seem invested in your health. Whereas nurses, can have this bullying attitude and if asked questions, many of them don't know the answers.

In fact to become a DESMOND educator, it is only necessary to work for a HCP organisation, do two days training and have a study day every few years. You don't have to be a nurse at all.
