i don,t know if its the cold weather but i,m hungry at night and finging it hard not to gorge on sweet things
i,m finding that i,m eating sooner between meals then i should. which results in being hungrier at night

Hi @ally1, I hope you are feeling a bit better and that you are able to cope with your bereavement, things will get easier even if you don't see that now. (((((hug)))))

Do you watch a lot of TV in the evenings? I ask because experiments have been done that show food adverts on TV stimulate our appetites, especially if we have weight to lose. Do you think this could be the cause? If you feel this is something that could be the catalyst, how about occupying your hands whilst watching TV. Knitting, sewing or crochet might be the answer for you, you will get engrossed in that and it may be too busy to think of food.

Other than the above, I wonder how big your meals are, are you eating enough at meal times?

Take care,

CC.

Ally, I'm sorry I somehow missed what happened to your brother, please accept my condolences and best wishes to you and your family.

As far as evening hunger goes one of my answers is a mug of hot chocolate, particularly good on cold dark evenings. I make it with cocoa powder, sweetener and double cream. As I drink my coffee black I find this is far better as an evening drink. That along with a low carb cake can certainly fill a corner, as long as you don't mind having to bake the cakes yourself.

@catherinecherub i do watch alot of tv in the evenings, i have also cut my portion sizes by halve so maybe been to drastic.
i find also that i get bored in the evenings so that doesn,t help me

Hi ally,

I understand where you are coming from, what I do is have a little treat in the evening, after my 2hr after dinner reading. Usually for me it will be sugarfree jelly or berries with a table spoon or so of extra thick double cream... This extra fat in the evening seems to stop any cravings for something else to eat until I eat my breakfast. Alternatives for me that work are pork scratchings.. Especially if I need something crunchier.

Ally, I would also like to say I am sorry to hear about your brother. I can't imagine how it would feel to loose a sibling but I am sure that like your online friends on is forum, he would be really proud at all that you have achieved under such stressful circumstances.

Hi Ally do you like crispbreads? Ryvita do a new crispbread which has only 3.5 carbs per c/bread (I've got plain and cheese flavoured)and if I'm feeling peckish I have one or two of these with peanut butter (Whole Earth - crunchy has less carbs than smooth!) or Philadelphia cheese or some celery and Philly cheese. It may be because you have your tea quite early and a little low carb snack will stave off the munchies!

What type of things do you like doing generally ?
Give us some ideas perhaps - then we could offer some ideas to
inspire things and thoughts for you .

Try my lettuce parcels trick .
Washed lettuce leaves .
Chuck in all your favourite salady things .
Cucumber, cherry tomatoes, celery, peppers, sliced boiled egg, chicken,
ham, grated carrot , drizzle some sweet corn on also grated/sliced cheese .
Drizzle some dressing on of your own choice perhaps if you wish to .
Beauty of this one - is you can pick and choose your own favourite things
to parcel up . :)
Roll them up , place on a side plate .
Nibble and enjoy watching tv or a favourite film .

I think the trick is to have low carb snacks in the house that require no or little prep. If you get the sudden urge for a snack, I doubt you'll want to spend time preparing things, I know I wouldn't. Carrot sticks, nuts, cheese nibbles ? Do you like to read or do puzzles ? Sorry to hear about your brother, you'll never forget but the pain does ease.

As chefs say preparation is as much fun as the joy of eating something
you have self created .
Plus it gets you up and be much more proactive ;):)

Helps to focus the mind and feel more positive . :D

Better than sat eating direct out of a packet(s) :(

Not for me lol ! If I get a sudden urge for food, I will just grab whatever is available quickly. I tend to find preparing food is much better done when not hungry. Whatever suits though. To be honest, I'm not even sure Ali needs snack option advice anyway right now. Time to grieve is more important. If BG levels run high for a while, I wouldn't worry too much.

i don,t have any hobbies and being on benefits, am short of cash
i will buy some sugarfree jellies
i did buy some jellies a couple of weeks ago and bought the wrong ones

I'm not surprised you bought the wrong ones! That's perfectly normal in the circumstances:)

I'm not making much money either from my vegetable growing business and hubby is on benefits after a stroke so we aren't exactly rolling in money. We do however make what we can from what we have so a lot of cheap meat cuts and making broth along with mending clothes and knitting will fill my time in the evenings.
