Hungry (food and not the country LOL!)

Once I have eaten my evening meal, I feel full, but around 8.30pm-9.00pm, I start to feel hungry again. What foods can I eat which will not raise my blood sugar levels too high and will not warrent me having to give myself another injection? I worry that I may end up putting on weight if I continue to go on like this. Any suggestions and advice would be gratefully received and appreciated. :)

Hi Hooch1

I too munch on celery and also small quantities of raw pepper or carrot sticks and sometimes an apple – and in that order of preference. I also keep sipping water laced with fresh lemon juice which, for me, is a pretty good appetite suppressant. :)

I have had to cut out all starchy carbohydrates as they cause my bg levels to spike so no potatoes, rice, pasta, porridge or wheat products etc. I found that reducing my carbohydrate intake actually reduced my appetite after the first three days or so. 8)

I have a FEW twiglets  . About 10 grammes. But it's not hunger. It's pickiness.
cheesy dip with celery or carrot sticks is better for me. or nuts
a hot drink made with 1teaspoonful Marmite in a cup with boiling water is good too.
I'm almost never really hungry. I think it's because I've trained myself to eat very little. As I'm losing weight only slowly, it's obviously enough.

A small bowl of plain popcorn is a good one for snacking on. Other low carb snacks I use for Jess to avoid extra injections are: cold chicken drumstick or cold meats, small bowl of blueberries or strawberries, cheese, raw vegetable sticks (cucumber, peppers, celery, broccoli, carrots), pecan or almond nuts, sugar free jelly, mushrooms, sliced raw cabbage with a teeny sprinkling of salt, half an avocado.

Hello Hooch01,

It's at around 20:30-21:00 GMT that my thoughts usually turn to cheese, pecans and whiskey - though not necessarily in that order.

You are, of course, free to vary the variety of cheese and whiskey to suit; however, the pecans MUST be pecans, otherwise the whole show falls apart.

timo.

I find that a slice of cheese helps when I feel snackish at about 9pm. I used to find that it was much more satisfying than toast or similar, even before I started low carbing. I think it must be the fat content?
Cheers, BB :D

I'm with timo2. Nuts and cheese at half nine. Regular as clockwork. (I've already had the wine!!!)
I know you take insulin and I don't, but avoiding another shot presumably means avoiding carbs, so any of the low carb stuff would probably be okay. It's awful having the munchies and feeling you can't eat, so go for it!
