Hyperglycaemia And Keytones

Hi all,

I have keytones of 0.9 up and down all morning but thereabouts. I am having lots of water and some extra insulin, bg levels also up and down 17 - 20 mmols.
Question is do I just sit it out or try to stay active?
TIA

Hi @Esther444 I take it you are insulin dependent then and using novorapid to correct ?

As long as you are testing say every hour then keep active, it will help reduce your BG levels. Can I check have you changed your insulin, checked your injection sites, are you possibly ill or have an infection ?

In regards to correction doses, I find that I have to take 20% more bolus when above 12 and around 50% more when above 15, my body becomes more insulin resistant, I only do this if I can test frequently and during the daytime.

Hi Juicyj,
Thanks for answering, yes T1 and pumping novorapid. This was yesterday and actually I ended up lazing around doing not much at all apart from moaning!
Kept chasing the hyper with insulin and the keytones came down eventually. Woke at around 4am tested and was still 16 keytones at 0.4. Corrected and was 8 at 8am
Today I am steadily climbing again .
I have never heard of increasing correction bolus for higher levels but this makes a lot of sense. Is this something you were told by a medical professional or something you found by trial and error?
I usually wear the freestyle libre and would feel confident to try this method but my last one fell off on Friday last week and I prefer to start a new one when my levels are fairly consistent - so I’m still waiting......
I suspect your correct and maybe I’m ill, going to be ill, have been ill, it’s the menopause, the wind has changed direction.......lol
Thanks again I’m sure it’ll sort itself out with a bit of help from our good old friend insulin.
