Hi all, I’ve been T1 since I was 5, I’m now 19.
Recently I’ve been getting hypos after I eat my meals, which is really bizarre for me, tonight I just ate chicken with fries and just a sandwich, which I know isn’t too healthy but my nurse said if I injected for the carbs it’s not an issue and it never really has been.
But the last couple weeks, every time I eat a meal I feel hypo almost immediately after, I have also been getting strange heart palpitations after I eat.. I am not injecting too much novorapid or anything, but am concerned that if I treat this hypo now I’ll have a high reading later due to just eating? Can someone offer some advice please I’m a bit stuck, thank you in advance! X

What are your blood sugars when you feel these hypos?

Hi. Sounds like Reactive Hyperglycaemia should be considered? Have a look at the RH forum?

Contact your diabetes nurse specialist, she might adjust your insulin.
Are you checking your BM's pre meals and 2 hours post meals?
Visit your GP about the palpitations to find out the cause.

Do you take your insulin before meals or after? Maybe adjusting when you take your bolus insulin could help. Then again it could be the dosage is not right, or your basal insulin dosage needs adjusting. Another possibility is the type of carbs you're eating. I think it's important you speak with your doc about it though because it's not good having hypo's all the time like that. I sometimes hypo straight after meals if I just eat vegetable carbs. For some reason vegetable carbs are unpredictable with me... I either go too high, or I go too low. I remember one time having a roast dinner with my family and within an hour my sugar levels were in the low 3's and I had to treat the hypo. What was weird is I had bolus'd less insulin for it too and I still hypo'd. The carbs were roasted vegetables of course. ugh. I hope you can figure out what the cause is as it will save you the stress and anxiety it causes too. I wish you the best. :)

I haven’t I will look now, I’m not very educated on all this stuff as I’ve never had this issue before :(
