Hi all

I realise this might be a bit of a random question, but I have been wondering this for a while. When you have a bad hypo, is it possible to faint even if you have already eaten something but it hasn't started to kick in yet? And if so, would you regain consciousness once the carbs do start kicking in?

When you say faint, do you actually mean fainting or losing consciousness due to hypo. I have never fainted due to hypo, but have had loss of consciousness. I believe that if you have ate something before losing consciousness it would depend on the quantity of quik acting carbs that you had ate and also the quantity of insulin in your body that was heading you in to unconsciousness, and also whether your liver is going to also kick in as well. Fainting terminology is a bit of an unkown for me.....

yep, what donnollysdogs said, plus don't forget that alcohol stops your liver from releasing stored sugar... so if you were drunk that might slow things down a little. But to be honest if you've eaten sugar you come round pretty quick.

Yes...happened to e once....very scary! Living alone..stupidly had no glucose near my bed...woke up very hypo....took abot 1/2 an hour to make it downstairs...had to crawl and hold the walls...ate a choccy bar (all I could reach in the fridge, as I couldn't stand to get o the cupboard) and then....well, nothing for about 1/2 an hour. Not sure whether I manages to cling onto consciosness while I made it downstairs and then gave up exhausted, but yes, if the glucose is in your system, it will raise your bg level.

Thanks for all the information guys. It's getting a lot harder for me to detect low blood glucoses in time now my average levels are dropping so I am scared that one of these days I might find out too late...
